Hi all, My GP has just referred me to a fertility clinic at my local hospital. Can anyone give me any ideas what will happen next? Bit of back ground I had a ruptured ectopic over a year ago and had my tube removed. My periods haven’t been the same since. Sometimes I’ll have a 21 day cycle and sometimes it will be 33 days. I’ve had spotting in between cycles some months which I’ve have a colonoscopy and ultrasound for which came back fine.

The doctor said my other tube was fine when I had surgery so I’m not sure what’s wrong. I’m 33 almost 34 x

Sorry a colposcopy! Not a colonoscopy

Sorry should have been a bit clearer, I was just wondering how long the referral usually takes and if they will do tests at my first appointment? And what tests will they do? Thanks all x

Hi,
I recently got referred to UCLH the intial appointment wait time was about 12 weeks but I managed to get an appointment within about a month through the online changing appointment service. At the initial appointment I had an internal ultrasound, showed them previous blood test results etc and discussed history. They also arranged for more blood tests like AMH. They also discussed my treatment options (laparoscopy initially to remove endo, then potentially try induction drugs for PCO and IUI) and where I would go from there. Hope that helps -good luck. It sounds like you know a lot of information about your fertility already so hopefully it won’t take too long.

I know at UCLH the waiting list for IVF wasn’t too long -it’s just that I need to try other thing first so won’t be put on the list yet.

@NoNotheresnolyrics Depends on your hospital with what they will do. I've heard of people having scans done on their first appointment. Mine refused to do anything until I had a chlamydia test done, which came back clear. I then had to wait for my next period to book myself in for blood tests and book in for a scan. In total I waited around 5 months from being referred by my GP to having bloods done and unfortunately in my CCG if we can do IVF we can only do one round so not looking hopeful for us.

24Juniper thanks for your reply. Sorry to hear that you’ve had to wait so long and that you will only get one try. That’s just not fair at all. I’ve read up and I am lucky enough to get 3 rounds where I live. We all pay tax into the same system so why the postcode lottery? That’s not really what the NHS is about surely!
