What to do next?! Laparoscopy or ovulation induction drugs?!

Hi all,
I had an initial appointment at a fertility clinic today and have been told I have two polycystic ovaries and an endometrioma on my right ovary. I was given the two options of a laparoscopy and then to try naturally for 6 months afterwards to see if it helped and then do ovulation drugs potentially with IUI after that. Or alternatively, start ovulation drugs first and maybe do the laparoscopy if they don’t work after.

I guess it’s making a decision over whether to treat the PCO or endo first-just wondering if anyone has been in a similar position? Or if anyone has had a lap and then had success getting pregnant after it? I am concerned it’s quite a serious operation and so that is putting me off a bit! Plus the idea of then having to continue trying on our own without any help for 6 months afterwards! Thanks all

Hi sorry it’s late!
I’ve had 3 laparoscopies, and I’ve had 12 rounds of ovulation inducing medication.. sadly both unsuccessful so far, even though I ovulated on the medication (but I think we probably have Male factor issues as well).. sorry I can’t help you there!
A lot of ladies I speak to on forums have been quite successful in conceiving within the first 6 months after their surgery. If you have endometriomas then it may help in the long run to have them removed if possible, and then start the medication after if needed. My consultant wanted to clear everything out and let things heal before starting the medication. Some consultants do things differently though..
The surgeries have been alright to be honest, it’s just the trapped gas pains that are a bit of a discomfort for a few days.
Wish you lots of luck! Flowers

I had a couple of years, on and off, of meds without success. Had a laporoscopy for dye testing and drilling and fell pregnant three months later! The recovery from surgery was fine but it was quite tough looking pregnant or a few days!

Thanks GandTisgooforme (great name!) and clumsy pickle-your Information is really helpful. I have since had a call from the fertility clinic who said they strongly recommend a lap for me before moving on to anything else -so I’ve signed all the consent forms and will be having it in 6-8 weeks.

I’m trying to look forward to it-although still quite apprehension about general anaesthetic etc.! I need to focus on the fact that it will hopefully help so it’s worth doing!
