Fertility treatment at UCLH-RMU or One Stop Fertility Clinic

Hi all,
We have been referred to UCLH fertility clinic through the NHS. I just wondered if any of you had any experience of it? So far they have been a nightmare to get hold of on the phone! Also when booking appointments online there were two clinics at UCH -the Reproductive Medicine Unit and One Stop Fertility. Does anyone know if these are the same thing? It seems confusing to have two clinics at the same address! We have swapped our appointment to the One Stop Fertility clinic at UCH because the appointment was much sooner-but we hope it’s still the right place!

Anyway-any advice on what to expect from our first appointment would be great! Thanks

Hi, I am in the exact same situation so couldn’t help but to comment hereSmile. I just got a letter from NHS instructing the booking, so haven’t booked yet though....I guess I have the same choices for the hospitals, and am also wondering about the difference between One Stop Fertility Clinic and Reproductive Medicine Unit as their address is the same. Out of curiosity, how long is your waiting till your first appointment at One Stop Fertility Clinic? Anyway, any advice on what should I expect from the people with similar experiences is welcome....thank you!

Hi Jess,
Now I have had my appointment I can fill you in. I ended up getting an earlier appointment at the One Stop Fertility clinic had it last week. This clinic is indeed in the Reproductive Medicine Unit at UCLH. I asked the doctor about it and she said that the idea is that you do all your tests etc before and so it’s one stop and they fill you in on what line of treatment you can have. Apparently there are three clinics there! But it feels very much the same as the RMU -so still don’t totally understand the difference!

If you can get an appointment sooner at One Stop like I did I would go for it. I was thoroughly impressed -they have a lot of options there and they are all free where as I know if you live in other boroughs and go to other hospitals you have to pay for somw things like IUI.

Initially my wait time for the RMU was 12 weeks (long!) but I kept logging online with my booking reference and password and managed to see an earlier one at One Stop-definitely try this! In the end I only waited about a month which I thought was fairly quick. Once there I had a scan, they took my history and looked at tests I had already done and ordered a few more for me. They diagnosed me with endo and PCO and I’m getting a laproscopy with them in 6-8 weeks. I think it’s a very good service and liked the doctors. If the lap doesn’t work they offer me IUI and superovulation (drugs) with IUI and finally IVF. That’s just my route -yours may be different depending on your diagnosis.

The other great thing about there is their IVF waitinf list is 2-3 months which I think is amazing. I live in Islington.

Hope this helps-happy to answer any other questions. I think the wait for the initial appointment can be a while but once you are in it gets quicker! Been very happy so far! Professional and lots of options not just straight to IVF like some clinics!

Hi mouseSmile, thank you so much for the info, especially the tips for online booking....definitely helpful!!
I went through some tests via GP before referal and I was diagnosed that I have PCOS so I might go different path with specialists, anyway, good to hear your experience and you are happy with them. 2-3 month waiting period for IVF is amazing!
It’s good to have a place I can ask this matter as this is sensitive topic you know...
I live in Camden by the way.
I will post if I find something worth sharing, too in the future.

Thank you!

I just had my first round with RMU @ uclh. Apart from the initial months consulting with the gateway FS. (she was a bit nuts and really rude), the rest of the actual ivf team are great. They also use CRGH for the collection/culture and then transfer.

Hiya, I just had the first round at RMU. I followed the advice and managed to change the booking date to an earlier date, so it ended up being 4 weeks of waiting for the first appointment instead of 8 weeks, the initial booking. Thank you for the tips! I guess it’s a cancelled slot? :) if anyone else trying to do the same, just please keep in mind you can change the booking time/date only once. The confirmation letter says if you want to change your booking more than once, you might have to ask your GP to refer you again.
Anyway, I will go for HyCoSy test and additional blood test. After that the plan would be IUI and then IVF if that doesn’t work, I will see. I am happy with the doctor so far:)

Great Jess glad you also had a positive experience and found the advice to change the appointment useful. I have been very happy with them so far-friendly docs and nurses, professional and they get stuff done! They also arranged a laparoscopy to deal with my endometriosis 4 weeks after my initial appointment which I think is an excellent lead time. Good luck with your treatment. We have to try naturally now for 6 months after my op then onto IUI.
