IVF with Endometriosis?

Hi all

Thanks for sharing your stories. I am writing as I am 36 (almost 37) with endometriosis and adenoymosis. My ovarian reserve is on the lower end (according to an fsh test) but otherwise we both have been fine in our fertility tests. Even though we have only been trying naturally for 4-5 months, our NHS fertility doctor recommended we start IVF immediately in my next cycle and to have a laparoscopy for the endo after the IVF if it doesn't work. I am surprised as we assumed we'd try longer naturally and would try less intense fertility treatments before trying IVF. I think the doctor is worried that we will no longer qualify for IVF treatment in their clinic if my reserves fall lower and that the probability for success will be much lower. It would also be great if pregnancy could help me with my endo this time rather than a surgery which can damage the ovaries each time.

I guess in brief, we are very grateful to get serious fertility help but also wonder if we should try a bit longer naturally first. At the same time I worry about losing more time. We were meant to be away in July and August for work and a family wedding so starting IVF in July means rearranging our lives a lot but we'd do it if necessary. It will be our first pregnancy. My last endo surgery was 5 years ago and set me back a lot in terms of recovery. I'd also like to avoid surgery again. However, I also have endo pain now that I removed the IUD that was treating me since TTC.

Has anyone else gone straight to IVF with endometriosis? Thank you so much.

Clara xx

Hi Clara, can I ask you how low your ov reserve is,?I have endo,35 and trying for 18 months.i will have IVF in a few months but Dr said that if it fails I will have another lap to have better chances...if the consultant has recommended that I would go for it as you said you couldn't qualify in future that is the reason what I am doing it now to have funding from the NHS x

Hi Clara, what's your fsh? Have you had an AMH checked?

A high fsh means you might not respond great to drugs which will only get worse over time so I expect that's why your doctor says just crack on with it x

Have they recommended getting an endo scratch to you? I think you might benefit as long as it doesn’t make your endo worse.
