IVF appointments

I found out this week that I have to start IVF and I'm being fast tracked.

I handed my notice in recently and am due to start a new job in a different city to where I live and the clinic is. It's about an hour journey on the train from city to city.

I'm just wondering how practical starting the new job is if I need to start treatment. My probation is three months, I'm assuming I might start IVF in two months or so.

How many appointments are needed in a cycle? I believe some can be really early so I may be able to get into work a bit later (new employer offers flexi)..

I'm so pissed off that I'm in this situation. Seriously considering asking my current employer if I can stay or having a few months unemployed (we can thankfully make it work).

Any advice around this would be really welcomed. I'm so stressed about the IVF and new job situation. Feel like I'm losing my mind X

I quit my job well before my ivf cycle was to start. Smartest thing I ever did.
I think the appointments depend on what protocol you're on and how you respond. I've had to go to hospital 8 times in the last two and a half weeks (hospital over an hour away for 6 appointments, half an hour away for two). Only one more to go - next Friday.

No way could I have done this with my old job (teaching). You're sometimes told you need to come back tomorrow, or I had a Friday afternoon where they told me to come in first thing Monday.

I'm sure some people do manage it. I couldn't have. Ivf is stressful. Do what you can to reduce the stress...

Fingers crossed for you Fingers!

As above, you won’t really know how many appointments until the treatment is underway, depending on progress/follicle growth you may just need scans and bloods every few days or every day. At my hospital you’d do the bloods/scans then get a call that evening when you needed to go back and what needs to tweak so it wasn’t plannable really.
Plus depending on your protocol this could be just over a couple of weeks or more if longer protocol.

The travel may be tough too, you may have side effects or just be knackered and emotional so adding in travel stress and new job - it may be a welcome distraction or it may add to the stress depending on each individual.

Also to mention I was private but still didn’t get choice in appt times as it’s so busy plus still had waits for scan and blood appt times.

For egg collection I took a day off afterwards as was a bit uncomfortable and emotional, embryo transfer was fine and not painful for me, took that day off but some women go back to work Smile

Hello, same situation.i am meant to start in a couple of months and I really hate my job but my colleagues and manager are nice so I thought to put off job hunting because I think it is going to be stressful.however I have 2 holiday booked so not sure if I will have to delay...when you say day off,do you mean holiday or sick pay?I will tell my manager anyway.

So I’m public sector and work are flexible that appointments are medical and reasonable time off provided - but that meant I also needed to tell my immediate boss about the IVF early on and so I’d balance the appt and work for each appointment day.

The day after egg collection I’d pre-emptively booked as annual leave. I could have taken it as sick but wanted it off anyway. Looking back I could’ve worked as was just a bit uncomfortable but will depend for each individual.
