Hey everyone,
We have been trying to conceive for 15 months. I have irregular periods 170-190 days and pretty sure I have never ovulated on my own. I have been to see my doctor and she has put me on 1500mg of Metformin which I think is working as I got AF (Aunt Flo - menstruation/period) 29 days after starting. Now on CD (cycle day) 4. I have a BMI of 39 and I’m worried that the next steps have been written off because of my BMI. Anyone had any success stories or Metformin regulating their cycles? Or even helping them to ovulate?
Love reading these posts they have helped me through a lot

I have pcos and my periods didn’t become regular until I got my bmi under 30. Metformin had nothing to do with it.

Metformin was used during clomid and ivf cycle, in the doctors own words, as a miscarriage preventative measure. He said the evidence about it improving fertility for people who aren’t also pre-diabetic is unclear.

Please please look into going on a low carb diet. I've heard so many success stories for people conceiving after doing this diet for a few months.

Thanks for your reply. I lost weight back in 2014 and your right my periods did become more regular but we weren’t trying and went travelling for a year and the weight slowly came back Blush. My hba1c is normal and she doesn’t think I am insulin resistant so doesn’t know if the met will have any effect but it’s basically the only path to do while my BMI is high. I am going back to slimming world (how I lost weight before). It has made more determined to lose the weight. How is your baby making going? I’m wishing you all the luck Grin

I’m on my first cycle so far so it’s early days. I lost weight by eating no more than 1600 cals and ensuring that I ate at least 100g of protein (through a variety of sources). I don’t really watch my carb intake (I’m not insulin resistant either and so I don’t really need to) but saved pasta / bread for special occasions and try not to go over 150g of carbs per day. Suggest just starting the diet from tomorrow, regardless of whether you get placed on metformin or not.

That sounds like a good way of looking at it controlling your cal intake because there’s lots of apps now to help. Also I suppose if you cut down your cals it automatically cuts down your carbs. Keep us update Smile
