Hi all,

Thought it might be useful to have a list of handy/ helpful/ required things to take for egg collection, or other procedures involved in this fertility treatment crap.

So far, I've got:
required:
2 x paracetamol
dressing gown
comfy pjs
IVF paperwork and all meds
a couple pads/ liners
wipes
passports

Comfort:
Books
hot water bottle for ride there (and maybe back?)

Any ideas welcome!

Lip balm
Hair brush and hair band
Toothpaste and toothbrush (brushing my teeth before leaving hospital always made me feel a bit more human)

i pad
Magazines (in case your concentration is too shot to read the books)
Comfy clothes (wear them there and back)

Hello! Happpy to add my two pence worth, based on my experience:

Have your hospital asked you to take the paracetamol with you? Mine never mentioned this - but gave me a diclofenac suppository in advance and asked me to use it on the morning of the Op (oh, the dignity of IVFSmile )

Dressing gown is worthwhile.

PJs - not sure. I was either in my own clothes or the hospital gown. I just made sure I was wearing soft and stretchy things so they were comfy. Unless you know you'll be staying overnight, I'm not sure you'd need them - though it wouldn't hurt to have them.

YY to paperwork, meds, pads (not liners IMO - go heavy duty, just in case) and wipes.

Passport - don't remember needing this. I'd already done all my eligibility and identity checks beforehand, though all my treatment was at the same centre, so if you're between satellite clinics and a main hospital that might make a difference.

The only thing I would add is some pocket packs of tissues - I was very emotional, and they came in handy!

Good luck - I really hope it goes well.

Gosh, I didn't take any of that to mine. All I had was my phone and a bottle of water for after. I wasn't really there for any length of time to need anything else much!

Hello, I only took a dressing gown, slippers and a pad for afterwards in case of spotting.
You may be hungry after ec due to fasting. My clinic gave me a hot drink and some biscuits, but check with your clinic as you may need to take some food and a drink.
Didn't need paracetamol as they popped in a suppository after ec which lasted for about 8 hours.
Something to read whilst you are waiting and make sure you go in comfortable clothes.

Good luck. Hope you get lots of eggs x

Maybe a small amount of food or drink for after. At my clinic they offered tea/coffee and toast, none of which are things I’m into, so I took some snacks of my own. I mainly fancied savoury things like cheese, crackers and crisps initially. And I took some diluted fruit juice as that’s what I like, but whatever will encourage you to drink plenty is good. I took books but never looked at any - I was too sleepy/spaced out. It was totally fine though, honestly, time just went really fast and before I knew it I was going home!

Speaking of home, I’d recommend getting some prune juice in as the drugs can slow everything down and I got really constipated a couple of days after, which was not fun. Drinking plenty of fluids and going for little 10 min walks regularly helped with that.

Best of luck, hope you get some brilliant, juicy eggs! 😊

I only took myself and hubby - who had TESE - nothing more. I wore loose clothes. I was lucky as I had no pain or issues afterwards and left an hour after procedure.

Another woman bought a whole suitcase of supplies with her.

I didn't take anything! Clinic gave me paracetamol intravenously before they brought me round, so I wouldn't have been allowed to take anything I'd brought anyway. Clinic also supplied a dressing gown and slippers, and gave me tea and biscuits afterwards, and pads. Just wore normal clothes, but loose fitting, and I had to take them off for the procedure anyway. We'd already done all the ID checks when we first started treatment. There was very little hanging around beforehand, and afterwards I'd have been too groggy to want to read anyway between coming round and being discharged (which wasn't very long).

I had a three hour wait before the procedure - was very glad I brought a book!! DH was bored stiff as he couldn't get signal or wifi.

They told me to bring stuff that really wasn't needed - passports (they already had copies - I suspect this was if people hadn't brought to their paperwork appointment), dressing gown (room was pretty warm), pyjamas (was in hospital gown the whole time), wipes. Pads were there, but didn't want to use more NHS resources...

I was VERY glad I brought my hot water bottle. 18 mature eggs collected (I think 19 were collected, but memory is spotty). still sore three days later with mild ohss.

I took nothing but DH had to be despatched home to collect stuff as I was admitted straight afterwards....took a hospital bag with me every time after that.
