PCOS and now possible endometriosis, scared

Hi ladies

I'm freaking out a bit... I was diagnosed with PCOS about four years ago and was lucky enough (in the same month I was told it would be very difficult to conceive) fall pregnant. I had my baby eight months ago and am now having spotting and light bleeds in between my cycles, sometimes painful, sometimes not.

My GP has referred me for a scan and to see a gynaecologist but has said the referral may take a few months to come through. She has said it could be a possible issue with an overgrowth of the womb lining after childbirth and that a surgical procedure may be required to remove it?? It really scared me and so of course I googled as soon as I got home and read the this procedure is not recommended for women who want more children, which I very much do.

So now I'm terrified I won't be able to have more children (I know I'm really lucky to have my wonderful baby, but it does still devastate me to think I wouldn't be able to give him a brother or sister.

Has anyone else had experience of pcos and endometriosis together? Am hoping someone will be able to tell me it's not as bleak as it looks at the mo :(

I feel for you love, I have PCOS and endometriosis. I'm 32, and have been told ever since I was tentatively diagnosed with PCOS in my late teens (endo came later) that I would likely not be able to conceive. I'm now resigned to the 'fact' (not a stone cold fact, more something I tell myself in despair, as I know several friends with one or the other, and one with both conditions, who have children) that I won't have kids. I've not had the financial stability up until now to be able to even try.

However! As I say, my mindset is more of the 'don't expect anything and you won't get hurt' school of self preservation than it is concrete fact or experience of not conceiving. A friend of mine who also has both conditions now has three kids. I find ways to manage the day-to-day symptoms and it's part of who I am now. I empathise with the fear and uncertainty, and I'm sorry I can't give you a straight answer as such, but hopefully my friend's successes can bouy your spirits somewhat. All the best to you

Hi I have PCOS and just wanted to say to try to take things one step at a time. Without the scan it's impossible really for your GP to know what's causing your bleeds between your cycles as it could just be your hormones all over the place. I didn't know I had PCOS and had twins completely naturally, my symptoms were there before I had them and my periods went really weird for a while afterwards. I was actually told I must be going through an early menopause at 30 by the GP (!), found out 2 years later it was PCOS all along! Once you've had your scan results you could ask your GP to refer you to a gynaecologist (or an endocrinologist) to see what treatment options there are for PCOS. (I was put on Metformin which has been great for me, my GP just wanted to prescribe Dianette - it's really helped). & hopefully your scan won't show anything else up but if it does a gynaecologist referral might be a good idea and they will give you the best advice.

Hope that helps x

Hi-I had my first fertility appointment last week and was diagnosed with endo and PCOS-like you it made me worried. I hope you manage to get it sorted out. Having read around the subject in the last few days, it does seem like lots of people still get pregnant with the conditions-I just wish I didn’t have both! I wonder if anyone has any success stories for us? I wish you luck with your journey.
