Funding vs NHS waiting

Hi bit of a strange one and don’t know if anyone can shed any light?!

We have started fertility investigations and to cut a long story short DH has low sperm count and low motility. Due a repeat SA next month. DH’s work will fund two rounds of IVF (should it come to that) and we have the paperwork to say that.

I’m confused as we have started the IVF process with the NHS through my doctors as this is how it all started. DH has to have his medical testing through work and that’s was how we found they would fund IVF.

So do we wait to see the NHS process through or use funding from DH work? I have no idea.

DH is military if that has any bearing?!

Do you know how long it will take for you to start treatment with his employer funding? I would look into whether it may be quicker to do it that way. Would it still be at the same clinic?

I’m not sure if we can use the funding at any private clinic as though we were self funded. I have no idea and I don’t know where to start for answers

In most areas NHS will only fund IVF if you have no children under the age of 16 living with you. So it might be worth starting with NHS and (assuming its successful) using the funding from employer if you intend to have a second child in future.

I found that there wasn't a long wait at all for NHS treatment but its depends on the area. You also have to consider your age
If you're quite young a bit of a wait wouldnt be too detrimental. Good luck!!

I'd just check if you go with the employer does that exclude you from nhs in the future and then the other way round?

I think you'd still be able to do nhs and Hereford is go private/work funded first

But good point form poster above - will the private/ employer fund it for a second child?

So I do have a bit more info. The ‘funding’ is still for the NHS if that makes sense so we will still have to go down NHS route. It’s there because due to nature of job we have to move around a lot. So therefore it’s to help with the postcode lottery that is NHS funding to make it fair for everyone. However there is still the strict criteria so if we were lucky on the first cycle there would be no further funding for second. We currently live in Lincolnshire where only one cycle is offered in NHS so it’s helpful if we are not lucky on first cycle that work will fund second if that makes sense.
