Can anyone knowledgable talk to me about trigger shots and IUI timing?

I’m probably overthinking this but basically I’m wondering whether to do my trigger shot a little later than my clinic have told me to.

For a bit of background this is my second iui with donor sperm but I have previously had 5 rounds with my husbands sperm and 2 failed ivf rounds also with my husbands sperm.

Each month whether using the trigger shots or not I feel strong ovulation pains and when using the trigger shots I generally get these about 24 hours later. So assuming when ovulation is occurring. On my last cycle of donor iui I had the pains early morning, around 7-8am and then went for iui early afternoon at about 1.30pm. My worry is that the egg has by then already been floating about for 6 hours or so. I know there is a 24 hour window, but surely it’s better for the sperm to already be there waiting when ovulation occurs?!

I have been told to do the trigger shot at 7am on Wednesday morning and then go for iui the following day at 1pm. I’m thinking of delaying the trigger shot until lunchtime Wednesday so that ovulation occurs closer to the time of iui. Is this a really bad idea? Is it not better for the sperm to be potentially waiting around for a few hours rather than the egg?

I have tried discussing this with my clinic but I’m not sure they fully understood what I was saying and just said it would be fine.

I know it sounds like I’m hugely overthinking this but this is five years of desperation and the last chance saloon talking here so apologies if I sound a little unhinged Grin

AFAIK the egg and sperm meet in the fallopian tube so the egg has a bit of a journey to make as well.

The egg hangs around for about 24 hours so I would say it's better to ovulate earlier and allow the egg enough time to move into your tube rather than leave it later. Basically do what your clinic says Grin
