Is it possible to missdiagnose no polycystic ovaries?

I thought someone in this thread might know something about this. I've always had irregular periods since puberty. The length varies drastically . Some months I'll have nice 30 day cycles for a few goes. Then it will be 48 days before my next period. I can never tell. Years ago when I was about 16 I had blood tests for pcos and they came back clear. As I have all the symptoms ( including acne, excess hair, weight gain) my doctor referred me for a scan recently. I was taking soy isoflavones at the time and typically that month I had a nice short cycle. The lady performing the scan stated she could see no evidence of pco and she could tell from my ovary I ovulated that month. Since then my cycles are all over the place. I've never been pregnant after having a lot of unprotected intercourse in the last few years ( not trying not preventing). And even though I haven't been actively trying for long I have a real gut feeling there is something causing my irregular periods. I did think I was being irrational at first, but I honestly can't understand why else my period is so irregular? Anyone have any ideas?

Hey there, sorry this is a confusing time for you.

Just to clear things up, you can have PCOS without having PCO

It even states that clearly on the NHS website: www.nhs.uk/conditions/polycystic-ovary-syndrome-pcos/

Thanks for your response @twittlebee. My doctor did say once I had being ttc actively for a year she will repeat bloods. But in order to be diagnosed with the syndrome ( not the presence of pco on a scan) you have to have abnormal bloods as well as symptoms. It's just so frustrating.

Moole ask to see another GP if possible because both me and my teen sister were tested and diagnosed regardless of TTC! A lot of people get diagnosed with PCOS as teens so clearly nothing to so with TTC.

Take away the TTC of things, it's nice to have the diagnosis so you can help manage the symptoms better.
