As title suggests really. I moved in with DH 5 years ago but never told my doctor's as my GP is a fertility specialist GP and with a diagnosis of PCOS I thought I might be glad of her knowledge. DH is registered at a surgery near where we live - my old gp is technically out of catchment so I'm still registered as living at mum and dad's.

We've been TTC for nearly a year and gp is talking about running some tests with a view to a referral if necessary.

Does anyone know how this will work with us registered at different gps? Will they each do our own tests and depending on what comes up (expecting it to be an issue with me but suppose could also be MFI) the relevant gp make the referral? Or will I have to suck it up and move surgeries before we go down that road?

A friend of mine was registered at a different GP than her husband and they had NHS IVF and now have a daughter. I’m sure it’s not a requirement to both be at the same surgery. Where it could get complicated is if the two GPs are in different CCGs as I guess that would make referrals and potentially funding decisions tricky. Don’t know if that’s an issue for you?

It's fine for you to be registered at different GPs but I'm not sure it's wise for you to be registered at a GP who isn't in the same CCG.

Are you miles away? I know some GPs have extended their boundaries

Thanks for the responses. I'm struggling to see which CCG each practise would fall into but I suspect they'll be in different ccg's which I hadn't thought of before. I've only moved 3 miles up the road and probably am still closer than some of the areas still within catchment but I doubt that counts for much - we live right on the border of 3 counties so while we live in the same county as my GP, our closest one (DH's practise) is in another county anyway.

I guess I'll just have to wait and see how things pan out and hope that my GP makes good notes to pass on to the new gp if I have to move!

Thanks @orchidinthesun

As suspected we're different ccg's.

Is it based on the CCG our gp falls under or where we live?

Put your postcode in - that will tell you which ccg you're in. Your gp is supposed to be in the same one I think

How come youve waited a year for a transfer?

When I spoke to a gynaecologist in jan he said when I do decide to try for a baby after six months of it failing I can ask for a referral as they know my issue is linked to pcos.

Hiya

It's not a problem. We are registered with different GPs for similar reasons. We still live in between the two addresses anyway and I have ongoing care so didn't switch. We are doing NHS funded IVF now. It's no issue. The funding seems to follow the female - all our referrals came through my GP. He did tests via his and they accepted the results.

Should be fine. Good luck xx

We are registered at different GP surgeries bit within the same CCG catchment area, we had no issues with being registered differently, his GP did his tests and mine did mine, we were referred to the fertility clinic by my GP, I was told that irrespective of us having mf infertility it was the female partner GP who needed to do the referral. From here it is a joint journey, the fertility clinic work with you both. Your problem will be that if you not have different CCG GP surgeries. Yes it's on your GP not where you live

Janefx40 · 25/04/2018 07:19

@LG93 I should add our GPs are also in different CCGs and his CCG don't offer IVF to our age group. It really makes no difference at all. It all goes with the female x
