Periods after a D&C, Asherman’s?

Wasn’t sure where to put this, hope this is the right place.

I had a second D&C for a second silent miscarriage two months ago. I had my first period exactly four weeks afterwards, yet I am now late. I’ve taken three HPTs including FRER and not even a hint of a line. We aren’t trying anyway as we are having investigations at the moment, but I’m now concerned.

I’m very worried about the possibility of Asherman’s as I’ve had two of these now, my GP doesn’t seem to have any idea why this has happened. They just told me it shouldn’t affect it after the first period.

Can anyone give me any advice on whether this is normal or cause for alarm? Thank you.

First of all, I’m sorry to hear about your miscarriages :(

Secondly, any surgical intervention on a recently pregnant uterus risks Asherman’s so yes, it’s a possibility. How late are you? It is also a possibility you ovulated later than usual which I hear isn’t uncommon when your cycles are trying to get back to normal after a miscarriage.

I had an Asherman’s scare myself and so I know that lack of periods is a huge sign but after speaking with many women who have had AS, there really is no generic symptoms. Some had regular heavy periods but were 100% scarred, some had no periods but had only very minimal scarring. I wold maybe hold off for a few more months and see if your cycles start to get back to normal. If they don’t and your period doesn’t come back or it comes back much lighter than normal, get in contact with your GP expressing your concerns and ask if you could arrange to have a hysteroscopy.

Thank you. I’m only late by a couple of days and I could’ve ovulated later. I usually have awful ovulation pain and I didn’t have it this month so it’s possible.

I have had really light periods since the birth of my first child so I can’t help wondering if I’ve already got it, and that it’s the cause of my miscarriages.

If it is Asherman’s, that’s it isn’t it. I can’t hsve any more children

No, that’s not the case at all so please don’t worry.

My cycles have always been very regular 28 days. Since ttc (and actually properly taking notice of my cycles) I’ve had a couple of months where my cycles were 34 and 32 days and one that was 26 days so it’s not uncommon to ovulate late or early sometimes even if you’re usually very regular. Also remember that it’s equally as common to have a random cycle where you don’t ovulate at all.

My fertility doctor said that there are lots of reasons why a period can change. If you have had a child, your age, weight etc. He said it’s not abnormal for your periods to be lighter after giving birth and when I thought back, mine have been much lighter than before I had my daughter.

In terms of having another baby if you DID have Asherman’s, a hysteroscopy can first of all diagnose adhesions but a procedure can be done using micro scissors to cut away at the scar tissue and free up your cavity. A Facebook group I’m on has hundreds of ladies with AS who have had treatment and gone on to have one or more babies.

I hope your period shows up soon so you can put your mind at rest a little. If you’re still concerned, definitely speak to your GP
