Hi all.

I am relatively new to all this! I have PCOS, and quite a large cyst on one ovary that the docs are leaving for now. NHS are taking a while with my referral, We went to a private clinic recently who told me I will qualify for NHS funded treatment so to save our money for now. So we are waiting for the first appointment still (this week I will be back on stalking the hospital as they lost the referral last month then found it but no app yet) Just a couple of questions, I have been put on metformin before, currently on the tablets (I can't remember the name) to force a period as I haven't had one for 5 months now. When you go to the first app, is getting a prescription for Clomid dependant on weight? I could do with loosing about one stone. I'm 31, used to be able to loose weight quickly, now I'm really struggling, is this the PCOS? Does anyone with PCOS have any good diet tips? Google is saying low carb would be better.... and I think I should stop inhaling chocolate !!

Ah yes, physicskate, I have been there and bought that t-shirt. This too shall pass.
My memory is clinic 1 saw I had a high level of FSH which indicates perimenopause, but clinic 2 spotted that on the same test my LH was v high, too, and the two put together indicates PCOS. Glad to hear they are being cautious and don't be afraid to question things.
I had metformin before both pregnancies and for the second I was told to keep taking it until week 11. It definitely helped with weight loss, too.
There is always the possibility of falling pregnant naturally, I've heard story and story, it only takes one egg, one sperm, but to get yourself mentally though the process I've learnt
a) pace yourself for the long haul and in the meantime maybe you'll get a nice surprise,
b) tell yourself that you are doing everything you can to get pregnant (see www.amazon.co.uk/Conquering-Infertility-Domars-Enhancing-Fertility/dp/0142002011/ref=nodl_ ),
c) aim to have sex every 3 days,
d) let it go when you don't, life won't always let you,
e) ask every professional you see to give you the statistical chance of everything they talk about: treatment options, etc to put things in perspective,
f) for god's sake do the things now that you won't have time to do if you have kids, and lastly
g) treat yourself kindly: you are living with uncertainty AND grieving at the same time. You didn't do anything wrong, somebody has to draw the short straw. It's just statistics.
I can tell you that life with children is much less perfect than your dreams. One of my DC has SEN and it is v tough at times. It is also, I won't lie, so worth it. Friends who've been through infertility and then had kids agree that it makes you a different, more appreciative parent and that can help during the tough moments. I wish everyone here lots of love and lots luck.

Just another thought: google diabetes diet as yes, PCOS is related to insulin levels but they don't know which way round the relationship goes. As I'd been on metformin, they were sure I'd get gestational diabetes when I did get pregnant with DC1 (I didn't). But please don't beat yourselves up if you find it hard to be perfect. And I had cysts drained a couple of times. Got them anyway, but the IVF itself fuelled a recurring one. They usually wait ages (6 months) to see if it will go down by itself and sometimes they do.

When to expect period - Proverawww.mumsnet.com/Talk/conception/2481523-when-to-expect-period-provera

This thread will help you with your questions and queries (most of us went on to have our babies over the next 18 months following this thread and the following ones and I believe most of us have pcos).

Good luck

Hiya,
How long did you guys have to wait before your doctor would prescribe you Metaformin? I came off the pill three months ago and still haven't had a period (besides the withdrawal bleed). I was diagnosed aaaages ago with pcos and high testosterone levels (every girls dream) and now I'm freaking out that I'm going to have to wait ages before they'll put me on something to help me conceive. If any one has any words of wisdom I'd love to hear them!
Thanks xxx

Thanks for all this info!! I'll have a read if the other thread tagged, thank you!
Trying low carb, I can't do no carb I love the seeded heaven loaf too much! But trying to make that as a treat. And good bye chocolate lol. Got my next app letter for August so got till then to sort the tube test and loose a bit of weight!
I think I got Metformin on a first appointment when I tried this all a couple if years ago but this time round (last time I discharged myself as it was all stressing me out) I haven't been offered it, maybe I will be after I've had all the tests... I'll report back!

@Cammy30 you really do feel better as there's so much more positivity in actually talking to someone in the same situation rather than googling and stressing! (I'm the same)

Personally I haven't, Sorry!

I have just been referred for my Laparoscopy so waiting for that now 😣 never been under general anaesthetic before so I'm not thrilled 😂😂 x
