Private IVF - NHS tests

I've just had a battery of tests done on the NHS and everything is normal to very good for my age - though I've not had the AMH results back yet.

I'm 40 and doctor implied she'd personally would go private due to waiting times on the NHS and my age.

If I go to a private clinic - do they get access to our NHS results or do we need to do them all again? I'm worried about costs.

Ask for a print out of your results and you can give them to private clinic. No need to repeat but beware they're only valid for about three months, after which the private clinic may want to repeat, so you might want to get the ball rolling quickly! Good luck.

I'd go private as well if I were you ( obviously I don't know your financial situation though!) private will look at your NHS results.

My CCG will now only fund ivf up to age 37 - changed last month. So you might not be eligible anyway?

My consultant ordered all tests, put them in a pack and referred me to a private clinic of my choice. Our criteria is no older than 34 so I stood no chance at 35

The private clinic can’t access NHS test results but will accept them unless there are reasons to repeat any. You may need to pay for a copy of all your notes.

I scanned and emailed a copy to my private consultant prior to the initial consultation which meant we had a more meaningful conversation as she had read them in advance (also included details of a failed cycle in those notes).

Can you contact your local assisted conception unit to find out what the waiting time and eligibility criteria actually is before you decide to go private. It was only 2 months in my area and we actually took longer than that to chose a private clinic for the next round.

I'm in Scotland so they fund 1 cycle between 40 and 42 but consultant thinks there is a wait list and doesn't recommend me waiting at this age.

Hi @MissMars I am a similar age to you and was lucky to live in an area that still has NHS funding. I would double check the waiting time with the clinic first. People including Drs sometimes assume there will be a wait when there isn't.

There was no waiting list for us at all. In fact the only delay was getting my GP to send the referral in. In my case they said it can take 6-8 weeks for your NHS funding to be approved but it took 5 days - it was submitted by the clinic on the Monday and on Friday I got a confirmation email with an appointment time. I would double check as it's a lot of cash to spend if not necessary.

The private clinic should accept your NHS test results as other posters say. Just get your GP to print them.

Good luck
