Is IVF cheaper if you are transferring frozen embryos?

I am wondering about the cost of IVF/ICSI. I understand on your first round you will do egg retrieval, fertilisation and if you're lucky have an embryo to transfer and if really lucky some to put in the freezer.

If on a second try you are using an embryo from the freezer and don't have to do the egg retrieval bit does that make the cycle much cheaper?

Much cheaper, less than a third in my case

That's good to know thank you.

I'm private and an ivf cycle at my clinic costs around £4,500 plus extra if you need more medication and have spare embryos to freeze. A frozen embryo transfer costs around £1,200. Obviously prices vary at different clinics.

Thanks @Zigzag99 I was wondering how people afford more than one if private but this makes sense and is reassuring.

Yes if you are lucky you will get 3/4 to freeze so if the fresh cycle failed then to go again it’s about £1.2/5k andmuch esiser process as no double daily injections

Roughly for a fet - You take pills to thicken lining on day 1/2 of period for roughly 2w get scanned to check lining and then pessaries week before fet so roughly 5/6/7 days
