Our first appointment at the fertility clinic. What happens?

After a year of trying and confirmation I'm not ovulating, I've been referred to the fertility clinic. We've finally had our appointment come through but no idea what happens next and feeling quite anxious.

Just wanted to hear from those who have been here and can shed some light for me?

Detailed medical history. Ultrasound and I had some more bloods ordered. Next appointment was three months later. And then three months later. And then three months later.

Don't expect this to be a quick process, is what I'm saying...

What physics said ...

Detailed history bloods ordered, scans ordered, weighed and measured unless you know what you’re height and weight is.

If appropriate you’re others half would be sent for seamen analysis. It’s

Smear needs to be up to date.

Everything takes time. We see consultant in April. First appointment was in November.

Expect a transvaginal ultrasound as part of it - they're no big deal and you get very used to them, but just FYI so you can dress in things that make sense.

Otherwise, yeah, as others have said probably lots of ordering of tests but no specific immediate outcome.

For mine, I had bloods taken (AMH and rubella) and also a chlamydia swab. I had an internal US too to check my ovaries and do a follicle count. We had our medical history taken and were then given two appointments. One for OH to bring a SA in (he had already done one before and had the results but the clinic wanted to do their own) and another for a follow up. I just had the follow up and was given all the results from tests they did and they all looked fine so I knew I was going to be fobbed off. I strongly believe I had scar tissue from a d&c or from an infection I caught after the d&c and I know it can’t be picked up on an US so pushed a little so I’m now waiting for an appointment for a SIS/HyCoSy and then potentially a hysteroscopy. As others have said though, don’t expect it to be a quick process. Lots of luck to you!

Thank you for your advice.

So far I've had monthly blood tests done at my GP, I've had a chlamydia swab and my husband has done a sperm analysis.

My GP seemed to think they'd give me medication to induce ovulation. Am I likely to have to wait a few more appointments until this happens then?

For my first appointment I had a scan and bloods taken. Full history including inoculations. They will test for everything including HIV and other STD's. They go through all the paperwork, lots and lots of consent forms.

Although you do this together, you and your partner give consent separately. DH consented to using embryos for training if they were not suitable for transfer. I couldn't consent to that, having never had a fertilised egg inside me (I don't think), I felt that the embryos were little chances of life. So my denied consent overruled DH as we had to both agree, but they ask you separately, if that makes sense?

I had a hard nosed nurse talking me through the injections. I took notes and started to get a bit overwhelmed. I asked her what would happen if I couldn't inject myself, like in that moment. If I froze, what should I do? She had no words of advice, comfort or encouragement. She just said 'do you want a Baby or not?' Shock it was big girl pants time! And you do manage it. It's nothing to worry about. Best of luck . Thanks

We saw the consultant at our first appointment, he took a full medical history then prescribed me clomid there and then. We already knew I had PCO and so most tests had already been done. It was a fairly quick process for us.

babywhen · 30/01/2018 20:36

I'm a bit overweight, will thshave prevent them from prescribing me clomid?

Depends how overweight. Generally the cutoff is above bmi 30.

Losing weight on its own helps some people get pregnant... though it didn't help me.
