Ivf abroad???

Hi, I'm new to chat discussions regarding infertility but not really sure where to turn for help and advice. My husband and I have been ttc for nearly 4 years. I'm 29 and he's 30. I had a laparoscopy (blue dye test) where they found both my tubes were blocked which explained the pain id been having. 9 months after the op may 2016, I had conceived but unfortunately resulted in an ectopic pregnancy and I also lost my left tube. Since then I have been discharged from the nhs as there's nothing more they can help me with getting pregnant. I have a 10 year old daughter from a previous relationship which is why I'm not entitled to Ivf nhs funding. The cost privately in this country is pricey! I'm thinking of going abroad for treatment as will work out cheaper but obviously worried about using a clinic outside the UK incase of complications. I'm hoping for treatment this year 🤞 please if anyone has any recommendations and advice on best clinics and prices abroad is be so so grateful. I feel like I really need to make a start on what we both really want more than anything together. Waiting for so long I need to at least try and give this a go before I can draw the line. Xxx

Hey, I didn't want to read and run.

Have you looked at the local ccg's guidelines for your areas. Where I live I'm entitled to three full cycles on the NHS as long as one of us has no child from previous relationship and we have no children together. It's basically a postcode lottery. So if there's an area close to you which you may qualify for on the NHS, may be worth looking into?
Regarding abroad, I've no idea.
But I wish you all the best anyway.

Hi Leabee.

I’ve just finished having IVF in Czechia and it is much cheaper than the UK.

I went through a company called Your IVF Journey ran by a lovely lady called Becky and her husband. They used the clinic I’ve just been with (Reprofit) so they know the process really well. I went with them because they have personally been to that clinic and Becky guided us through the whole process as well being the intermediary between us and the clinic. This cost us £375 but it was peace of mind for me as any questions I had or things I needed clarifying, I could call or email Becky straight away and she would get back to me quickly so I was never stressing out or worried about what I needed to do.

I also wanted to try IVF abroad as 1st NHS IVF failed and I was only allowed one cycle. Me and my dh don’t have any children and my problem was my tubes too (one removed the other is scarred).

For me to have private IVF in the UK was a ballpark figure between £7,000 - £10,000.

The IVF cycle in Czechia starts at €1,950 with your own eggs.

We’ve just spent 10 days in Czechia in a lovely self catering apartment and with the IVF drugs, scans, blood tests, insurance and the actual IVF cycle itself (own eggs with ICSI), it costs us just over £4,775.

Hope this helps!

Op can’t get nhs ivf as already has a child

I went to MADRID ivi after 2 failed private in uk

3rd failed but got 6eggs to freeze unlike uk where both cycles had none to freeze

Better technology abroad imo

5th attempt worked. Dd is 10mths - I’m 44

I’m curious @antonia. Why your ivf was nearly £3k over the ballpark figure of under £2k

Antonia79 · 25/01/2018 23:05

Hi @Blondes

The final figure I paid was the total I paid for everything. I’ve broken it down below

Costs of the initial hormone blood tests, ultrasound tests and semen analysis total: £575

IVF ICSI total: €2900

The above price obviously varies from person to person.

Breakdown:

IVF/ICSI/Egg collection/transfer: €1950 (standard)
STD blood tests for both: €200
Egg freeze first 2: €250
Each egg to freeze after: €500 (€50 per egg)

Drugs: £495
I was on Menupor, Cetrotide, Ovitrelle (trigger shot) and then Utrogestan (vagina pills).

Accommodation: £615 for 10 days

We stayed in a self catering apartment as was there for 10 days, worked out a lot cheaper than staying in a hotel.

Insurance holiday and medical: £194

Flights: There are direct flights from London Stansted to Brno with RyanAir which are pretty cheap:

Stansted to Brno RyanAir: £70 for both of us

We had to book flights home from Prague as no direct flights from Brno on a Tuesday in winter months! You CAN get cheaper flights but we wanted a bit of security...

Prague to Stansted EasyJet: £270 for both

Reason being is that it was suggested we book flights that we could change in case the IVF has to be cancelled, for example had to cancel egg collection or egg transfer.

Train from Brno to Prague: £16 for both

Final total of everything: £4,775

I think I got my maths right!

Hello Antonia79,

Thank you so much for your kind reply. That's really helps and makes sense. The clinic Reprofit I was in touch with last year. I went private and sent over my scans and bloods ect but then my private gynaecoligst messed up my paper work saying I had a ectopic and lost right tube but it was my left tube 😕 I got real down with it all and didn't ever get back in touch. Wow the price difference is huge compared to the UK ivf! I didn't realise you could pay and have someone take you through the journey. That's very reassuring to know. I've always been worried I will over stimulate and end up in hospital. I have my fingers crossed for you and I hope you get your dream. Thank you again, lea xxx

Hey Blondes,
Sounds like you have had a hell of a journey! But very pleased you have a bub now 😁 it's very frustrating isn't it! I've heard stories about UK ivf failing and abroad more successful. May I ask was your ivf cost pricey? Or cheaper than most countries? It's hard to know where to start. I'm not sure if I'm suppose to go on pill for a few months first.

If you're using Reprofit you can just go directly to them. No need to go via my ivf journey.

Antonia79 · 26/01/2018 15:57

That’s absolutely true, you don’t have to use My IVF Journey or any other ‘middle man’, you can contact the clinic directly Smile

The reason why I paid to go through them is because it was my first time doing IVF abroad and they have been through the exact same process themselves so they knew how it all worked. Also they gave tips on where to stay (some are discounted through them), where to go for massages and acupuncture (if that’s your thing), what flights to book, where you can get your meds from at a good price, where to go in the UK for blood tests and scans... basically took out all the researching for all that because I found it all really daunting... when I first started looking into this myself, I had no clue where to start and it got me really, really down.

So for me, it was just someone else that can do all that for me and I can concentrate on me and keeping my stress levels as low as possible Grin

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/01/2018 10:48

That make sense ANTONIA. The ivf price is one thing. It’s all the the little things on top

Op a I did do a cost thing on one of the other threads

I’m just going out but will look on the laptop and copy and pasts

In all we spent £15k abroad but that was for one fresh - 2 fet - flights etc

Plus I needed some ops so went abroad for that

The £15k was for all

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/01/2018 10:54

found it easily

after 2 failed in uk, and £12k - we used ivi in madrid

we spent £15k abroad, this includes everything

flights 6 times going over for chat,
op,
cycle 3
,attempt 4 fet,
era,
attempt 5 fet

airport parking, taxis to clinic, all blood tests and cf and sperm freezing, hotels, scans for fets, 2 era, fresh cycle, freezing for 2yrs, 2 fets, cervival dilation (800 in madrid,£3.5k in uk)

looking at my notes, as we flew in and out rather stay there for a week as both se, the first cycle there but 3rd in all,if worked would have cost

3.5k ivf icsi
367 flights for ec return for 2 adults
100 taxi from airport to ivi
80 hotel night in madrid
60 scan home to check lining before flying for ec
30 gatwick parking
657 flights for et (never do xmas/ny lol) for 2 adults
100 taxi airport/ivi return
34 hotel night in madrid
30 gatwick parking

total £4858

tho as said above we flew over for ec dec 28th and back again for etc jan2 so spent 1024 on flights and double on taxi/parking/hotel

when we went for fet month later was 203 return for both of us and did in a day sono hotel costs

so flight prices really do vary

moral of story, dont start down reg in oct as ec/et will be end of dec/jan and bloody costly on flights

so take off silly money for flights and i say you could do do ivf icsi abroad for £4300/4400 including everything

you have to think about flights, parking, hotels etc in your budget
