Hi there,

I have PCOS and currently not ovulating - I am being referred to a fertility clinic and will have appointments coming up so may need some time off from work. But do not want to tell anyone at work / manager about my specific issues. Anyone know a discrete way of managing this during a stressful time?

I've just put 'hospital appointment'. When I had a cycle of ovulation tracking (ultrasound up to foof every other day for about 10 days), I had a meeting with my headteacher (I'm a teacher so think my boss' boss' boss) saying I had a series of investigations for a minor but urgent issue. As soon as you start even suggesting 'female issues', all of my (male) bosses and colleagues didn't want to know more. It was frightening, but not as big a deal as I'd thought in the end...

I never did tell my manager and just said I was having hospital appointments for pelvic pain which is how it all started really. I managed to get referred to the hospital from the GP as I had pain and no periods and I knew I'd have problems conceiving as i never really had periods. Every time I had to go I just said it was for more investigations or to see the consultant. I wonder if she ever put 2 and 2 together after I got pregnant!! Good luck. Don't feel you have to tell them anything. If they push you just say you'd rather not discuss it as it's a bit personal. I'm always one for feeling like I need to tell everyone everything when no one tells me anything!
