Significant fall in AMH

I’m hoping someone can give me some reassurance about my AMH level. I’m 37 and had an AMH level of 16.6 in October last year. Since then I’ve done a fresh ICSI cycle and two FETs. The fresh and one of the FETs failed and while the other FET was initially successful, it ended in a mmc.

I’ve now changed clinics and am looking into immunes as a possible reason for the failures. I’ve just had my AMH level retested and it’s now 5.3. I’m completely panicking about how much it’s changed in a year and was wondering whether anyone had had a similar experience of a significant (and rapid!) decrease in their AMH level? My FSH level has also gone from 4.7 in February this year to 11.7 now, which is adding additional stress, although I know FSH levels can fluctuate from month to month.

Our consultant seemed ok about the levels and I know he’s the expert, but I’m still stressing and so am hoping people might be able to offer some reassurance and stop me from losing the plot!

Apologies for the rather long post Blush

Hello Lulahbelle,
I am not on an expert by any means on this but I know that you can have a different AMH reading from one time to another and I know a friend who had a very low reading and then when tested again it had gone up. If you're consultant is positive then I would try not to worry about it too much.

I know FSH can move a lot between cycles, as I had a 7 a 6 and then a 9.6 within a few months. The clinic said it just varies and they said it can even vary depending on the day (so day 2 v day4). My amh was low (5 or something) when I was 32. I had 2 collections (one at 32 and one at 33) and got 11 eggs both times. So don’t worry too much about that level anyway. I was always told it was “low” but not “bad”.

I’d just get on with it. I got immune treatment for fresh #2 and FET #1. Made the difference for me. Costs a LOT but was worth it for me.

Was it measured in the same units and at the same lab?

Hello Waterdropsdown,
Can I ask you a quick question. What is immune treatment and how do you know if you need it?
Thanks!

After my first cycle on nhs where I got a decent number off eggs but they all dropped off quickly we decided to go private and my husband was adamant we would go to the clinic with best success rates as he wanted to do this as few times as possible. In our London clinic it’s quite normal to test immunes so we did it. It’s very controversial but I’m 100% happy with the decision to do that.

Thanks so much for your responses - really appreciate it.

So pleased things worked out for you Waterdrops - am hoping immune treatment may help us too.

Yes, same lab JoJo so sadly can’t blame it on different units!

Thanks again for your replies.

That is quite a drop but not a disaster zone. It should be pretty reassuring that the consultant is happy with it and you'll still get a few eggs. So good luck!

Hi Lulah, the same happened to me. I dropped from 8.1 to 2.35 in little over a year. My first cycle got me 11 eggs, 8 fertilised and 2 blasts. Fresh transfer resulted in BFN and subsequent FET got me a BFP but ended in miscarriage. Fast-forward a few months, my AMH had dropped, we got 3 eggs and only 1 fertilised so I didn't have any hope at all in it working. But it did and I'm now 19 weeks pregnant. I hope that helps, I remember trawling the Internet looking for success stories when it was me. Good luck! My mantra now is it really does only take 1!
