Failed 1st IVF attempt...feel devastated
ohbigdaddio · 18/10/2017 18:00
Hi all, I'm sure this topic has been discussed time and again but just need someone to talk to. Bit of background, I'm 38 (nearly 39) and have never become pregnant naturally. l have a fibroid protruding into my womb by 10-20% which consultant wasn't concerned about and said would do more harm than good if they removed it.
I've just had my 1st round of IVF at Guy's and l started bleeding yesterday (OTD tomorrow) l did a test this morning and it was negative. lt's not a light bleed and I'm 99% sure it is my AF.
Feel utterly devastated and numb. Have hardly been able to cry, it's a shock. At every stage of treatment things seemed to be going well. 12 eggs collected which gave us 3 good embryos, 2 have been frozen and 1 was transferred on day 5. DH and l left the hospital so happy and hopeful on day of ET. Feel like a fool now.
How do you get through/over such disappointment? I'm terrified we will never be parents.
Thanks if you've got this far x

Reported aswell - disgusting.
On one of the MN local threads in my area a lady was discussing her IVF and some idiot spammer piled in banging on about a surrogacy clinic! Nowhere had the OP mentioned needing surrogacy ffs - I reported and MN did remove promptly thankfully.

Hi
I know your post was a while ago but how have you got on since, your story is similar in tha I am 38 going on 39, I have 3 embroyo did 1 transfer after 2 ww I got a positive which I could not believe after 4 years seeing that word pregnant was like winning the lottery. Short lived 1 week later at scan nothing could be seen and I had a bleed and chemical pregnancy. Feel so depressed. I have 2 embroyo left not sure whether to transfer 1 or 2. not even feeling positive right now. but how have you got on in the past year any good news?

I was in the same boat as you (second cycle). My clinic will transfer 2 embryos next time because for our age the pregnancy rate is slightly higher and they feel that despite ‘perfect looking’ embryos there may be some thing not quite right about them due to my ovulatory disorder. Sit down with your consultant and discuss all of your options.

Hello anonmouspregs It's one year on now and I am afraid I have no good news.
My 2nd ET (frozen) failed in April and my 3rd (and last) ET failed...I only found out on Monday this week. At the time of the transfer the embryologist told us that, after defrosting, our embryo was borderline at 50% expansion...ie almost not good enough to bother transferring. The failure of this transfer is hardly a surprise but doesn't make it feel any less shit!
I feel totally numb and haven't even cried. We now have no embryos and I will be 40 in December. I have never been pregnant in my life. Can't believe when I started TTC I was 'only' 37 and thought I had a good few years ahead of me. Time has flown and now I am unsure if we will ever be parents.
Sorry I can't offer anything positive and sorry to hear about your pregnancy not working out. Good luck for your other 2 embryos. We were advised that one healthy baby is the most important thing so we always transferred one at a time x

@ohbigdaddio I read this thread a couple of days ago and wondered how you were getting on.
Sorry to hear you've have such an awful run of things. It's so unfair to be in this position still.
I'm in a similar position to you with a run of bad luck, age 40 now, and have had four stimulated cycles including one fresh transfer and one frozen. One MMC at 11 weeks from the second cycle which was our first transfer. We only had one frozen blast which was poor quality anyway, and only partially expanded, so like you was not surprised when it was BFN last month.
Now at a crossroads as to what to do next.
What are your plans?
