Micronised DHEA

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has recent experience of ordering DHEA online? I've seen older threads where people ordered it from dhea.com but have also seen posts saying that that orders from that suppliers were stopped by customs! The website also says they reserve the right to publish your personal information on the internet which is worrying...

I haven't spoken to my dr about taking it yet but have read it can be helpful for low AMH (I'm 37 with AMH 1.3). You're supposed to take it for 3 months before your IVF cycle and I assume it'd take a while to arrive from the States which is why I wanted to order sooner rather than later. (If my dr advises against it obviously I wouldn't take it.)

I've never ordered pills off the internet before so this is new territory for me... If anyone could recommend a reputable online supplier I'd really appreciate it!

If your doctor feels that it's appropriate for you, you'd be given a prescription to get it here? And you wouldn't be risking the pills being dodgy.

That's rather harsh JoJoSM2 The majority of GPs know bugger all about fertility. Indeed even the consultant at my ACU smirked when I asked about dhea for egg quality, despite the fact there is evidence that it can help. Their amazing advice went as far as "take folic acid"

Op, I've ordered from dhea.com before with no issues. The tablets took an age to arrive though. The clinic I'm with now suggested a dose of 75mg a day for my none existent amh. I've stopped ordering from there now, but only because it's prohibitively expensive. I now get my dhea from biovea. It's not micronised from there though, so that's something to be aware of.

Good luckSmile

Also ubiquinol is good for egg quality. I take 300mg a day.

Although part of me sometimes wonders how much use any of it is tbh. I had a cancelled IVF cycle in March after being told I have POF and would only conceive with DE. I then fell pregnant in June after a depression fuelled and highly fertility friendly diet of Jack Daniels, chocolate and coco pops! I miscarried at five weeks, but a subsequent Hysteroscopy abroad revealed extensive scar tissue (now removed) which would have made implantation almost impossible.

So there is always hope. I even managed it despite DH having low motility. Doctors love to write you off if you have low amh, but they really don't know everything!

Agree with the above. And there's no way a gp would prescribe dhea in my opinion. My gp didn't even know that my fsh was high- I had to insist on being referred to the fertility clinic...Hmm

Isthismummy, I never said GP... Obviously, fertility medication should be recommended by a fertility specialist. DHEA is serious stuff and not like popping vits or Q 10 hence I think it's important to go with professional advice and buy from a reputable source.

The trouble is JoJoSM2 is that a lot of fertility specialists in this country will roll their eyes at the suggestion of any supplements. I've had experience of it first hand on two separate occasions.

dhea.com have been used by many women (including me) with no ill effects.

Obviously it is down to the op what she chooses to do, but I am only offering my own experiences and opinions. After all, we only have our own vantage point to work from.

Thanks for all your replies!

JoJoSM2 Don't worry, I wouldn't take any pills without speaking to my fertility specialist first. I'd just been thinking of ordering them in advance in case the dr agreed they might be helpful because I'm aware the pills could take a while to arrive as they are sent from the States.

isthismummy That's great to hear you got pregnant naturally, although I'm sorry it didn't work out this time. We've had two fresh IVF cycles and one frozen, but no luck. We can only afford one more shot so was trying to maximise chances with supplements I guess! (Also known as clutching at straws Smile) I agree it probably makes very little difference in the end - plus a chocolate and Jack Daniels diet sounds very appealing right now!

I think I'll try dhea.com and see if they get delivered, thanks for the reassurance!

Hi, just thought I'd update this thread in case the info was useful to anyone else in the future.

I ordered dhea from dhea.com and it was delivered to Spain in about two weeks. It's also banned here in Spain and before sending it to me, dhea.com emailed to say they would need to send it in a flat envelope instead of a bottle (presumably so it doesn't get detected at customs.)

I asked two doctors at different clinics about using it (our current clinic and one we're thinking of changing to) and both said it was absolutely fine. They said it probably wouldn't help but it certainly wouldn't hurt to try.

Hope that helps!
