HSG

Has anyone had HSG done? We saw a fertility consultant two days ago who has recommended having HSG as all the other tests have been fine, the waiting list for laparoscopy is very long and having piled on weight from stress eating in the last 18 months TTC the general anaesthetic is quite a risk. Anyway he walked out to get some referral forms then left the door open when he came back so I felt uncomfortable asking questions when the world and his brother would be able to hear Sad
My main concern is that I had cervical shock a few years ago when they tried to insert the coil, blacked out and had really low heart rate despite rolling around and screaming in agony when I came to, they had to ram a load of drugs in to me to get my heart rate up enough to make my way home. I'm scared if they insert things through my cervix again the same thing might happen - can't find a lot on the internet, any experienced mn out there?

I've also been given some paracetamol and antibiotics on prescription for it and that's freaking me out a little, really not looking forward to it. Would be so much easier if they had done some tests and gone "Bingo! There's your problem, just take this tablet and voila BFP's all round"
(Sorry for the long post!)

I had a HSG done and I've got to be honest - I found it painful and I've got a decent pain threshold in gynae related issues!! However, my tubes were blocked. I know other ladies who had no bother whatsoever with it and the dye went through easily so it's hard to say!

I had a HSG done - it was uncomfortable. I took paracetamol and ibuprofen beforehand as my clinic told me too. It really wasn't anywhere near as bad as I thought and they had to use a harder less flexible probe to get through my cervix (& I'm not good with pain)! It's really worth having done! Good luck OP!

I got it done and it's sore but just like a bad really bad period pain. It's bearable and could be beneficial. I would do it if I were you.

When I had mine it did not hurt until they put the actual dye through, so the part where they pass the tube was fine (it's very small), it was a very strong cramping feel, almost like someone was twisting my lower tummy!! However that feeling was literally 10 seconds. The whole thing was over in less time than it took me to walk back to the car! 5 mins from getting on the table to being back in the waiting area. Take some pain relief beforehand and lots of deep breathing as being tense will only increase any uncomfort. It's not very pleasant but it's so quick and they will not give any basic treatment - such as clomid without it. Grin and bear it and you'll be one step closer to your goal at the end of it Smile good luck!
