Is there any point seeing the GP?

DH and I have being TTC for over a year with no luck. My DD from a previous relationship is almost 5, and DH has older children.

I'm guessing that because of this there's little point in seeing the GP for any help?

You wouldn't be eligible for ivf, but I don't see why a decent gp (if you're lucky enough to have one) wouldn't be willing to help. Issues trying to conceive can have many reasons/solutions and ivf is just one of them.

Having said that the NHS are (in my bitter experience) utterly rubbish. If you can afford to go private then do it that way.

Good luck op.

Ttc over a year with no luck is a clear reason to see the GP. Lots of people struggle with secondary infertility. The first may have been a lucky shot or maybe your bodys have changed a bit over the years. You maybe need a bit of help to get pregnant this time. There are more options than just ivf so a consultation with a fertility specialist would be a good start.

Thank you both. Yes, I thought we wouldn't be eligible for IVF, but I guess I assumed that that meant for all fertility investigations and treatments. Is that perhaps not the case?

I'm pretty sure they would do the investigations but not the treatment. It varies between areas. Good luck!

You won't be eligible for ivf, but all basic investigations should be done and there be certain types of treatment available. I am paying privately for ivf having one child already. But the GP did all our blood and scans and sperm analysis on NHS, which saved a lot of money! Good luck x

I have a friend in a similar situation, her and DH have 2 children each but would dearly love to have one together. They've had investigations done on the NHS, had the results and have now decided to proceed with IVF privately. It can make a very expensive process ever so slightly less expensive. A bit lengthier maybe, due to NHS waiting lists, but if you don't mind a bit of a wait then I'd say go to the GP asap.
Good luck OP.

It probably varies where you live. We were offered semen analysis and basic blood tests ( having one child) but no hospital apt or tests.
