What are the chances of my embryos making it to blast?

So I had EC on Monday and they got 14 eggs. 1 was immature and the others have fertilised.

The clinic called today and said most of the embryos are 'looking lovely' so they have booked me in for a 5 day transfer.

I was happy when I got off the phone but now I am wondering what the chances are of any making it to blast. Surely the clinic must be confident or they wouldn't have made that decision?

Would be good to hear anyone else's experience as I have only ever had 3 day transfers in the past.

Thank you.

I had 11 fertilise and 5 made it to excellent quality blasts. Your numbers are very good. Why have you previously had 3-day transfers? x

Thanks Scottish. I previously had 3 day transfers as one or two embryos stood out from the rest early on. This time they all look similar quality so the clinic said by leaving them until day 5 they will be able to pick the best ones.

I think you can be confident that you will get some blasts. Try not to worry. Day 5 transfers are more successful than day 3. Embryos that don't make it to day 5 usually wouldn't have survived inside you, so it really does weed out the weaker ones. Good luck x

1st fresh round: 15 eggs, all mature, 11 fertilised, can't remember how many to blast but 1 for transfer and 2 deemed good enough to freeze.

(Results: fresh transfer resulting in healthy pregnancy but premature labour and lost my son, out of the 2 remaining embryos one failed to thaw, the other one failed to implant).

2nd fresh round: 21 eggs, all mature, 19 fertilised, 18 made it to blast, 1 fresh transfer, but only 4 deemed good enough to freeze.

(Results: fresh transfer resulting in MMC at 9 weeks, followed by embryo thaw and current pregnancy (17 weeks so far), 3 embryos left in the freezer).

I remember being bitterly disappointed at the number we had to freeze after so many eggs collected and so many making it to Day 5 but I think my clinic has really high standards for freezing.
