I'm 42, and quite active through demanding work. Live healthy and most days have work life balance.
Iv just done my first round of IVF. Im told to do my first pregnancy test on a date very soon. But eager I and my husband are we have done an early test two days before required to do. It's negative. Im spotting. I have belly achieved like period pains and other pains like headache, light headed now and then. I'm scared. Will we be pregnant? Or does this seem to be failed ivf. Only one embroyed was successful and implanted. None frozen and due to age don't qualify of any further free on NHS. Feel so sad. Will do test again on requested day, fingers crossed.

No advice, but bumping for you, and everything crossed op.

LapinR0se · 02/07/2017 17:08

How many days ago was your embryo transfer?

Monasworldupsidedown6789 · 02/07/2017 17:32

Hi. Chewbaccathehooky, thank you.
HI. LapinR0se. Two weeks yesterday. xx

Ok you are fine to test. If it's still negative you can get a blood test from your clinic to look at your HCG levels.

2014newme · 02/07/2017 17:45

It took me 4 cycles over 5 years age 32-36. All private.
I'm so sorry that yours may not have worked, where we live you would have been over the age limit for NHS though so at leastyou git one cycle free.
Would you consider private treatment?

💐for you

Hi. OK. So my spotting and period pains are normal. I tested myself yesterday and it was negative on the clear blue stick. Tomorrow is the date nurses gave.
So, if negative I can get blood test done? Why is it not showing positive on the stick or that HCG levels not high enough. Is it cos of my age? Thanks xxx

Hi 2014newme. Glad it worked out for you in the end. It's because I started the process at 41 but stopped as I was overweight and had to lose before continuing and I got depressed, so was glad it stared again just before my birthday. Going princess a lot of money, which we can't afford, sadly. Xx

Oops going private costs too much money xx

They should have told you that whilst it of course may work first cycle, you need to be prepared for at least three. It was more for me.
Yes it us expensive, cost us £20k. Can you remortgage?
It's a long tough road I know.

Monkeypuzzle32 · 02/07/2017 18:03

I had the same thing pretty much but I had to self fund my IVF even though i had no existing children, your chances of successfully conceiving at 42 are about 5-10% I think, I'm not trying to put you off but it didn't sink in for us until we failed as the clinic kept saying my egg collection was good for my age, look at egg donors as that's what we had to do in the end and it works out about the same ££

sebashocked · 02/07/2017 19:33

Honestly if embryo transfer was 2 weeks ago, you should really be getting a positive on a pregnancy test by now. Though miracles do sometimes happen. The progesterone supplements will be delaying the onset of a full period.
Age is a major factor in success. Egg quality deteriorates quite significantly over the age of 35 unfortunately. Plus the first cycle is always a bit experimental and if you manage to get another round they will tweak the medication in the hope of getting a better response.
It's very normal to go into IVF feeling excited and optimistic but the heartbreaking reality is that it doesn't always work (speaking from bitter experience as someone who did 7 cycles between the ages of 32 and 37).
Hope the future holds happiness for you.

2014newme · 02/07/2017 21:47

Yes if the test is negative I would be inclined to think that wouldn't changing the next two days I'm afraid. 💐

Persipan · 03/07/2017 06:29

Unfortunately IVF at any age is more likely to be unsuccessful than successful, and this becomes particularly marked as we get older.

In the meantime, the progesterone is both delaying your period and potentially giving you various pre-period/early pregnancy symptoms. You can't really read much into how you feel when on progesterone because it's normal for it to make you feel like this and doesn't really tell you anything.

You may find that your clinic don't offer blood tests - mine doesn't typically do them, they just go on the results of the home test.

cherryontopp · 03/07/2017 09:55

They won't do anything until your OTD anyway, unfortunately if you done the test 2 weeks ago it should be positive by now. I had my bfp at 9 days last transfer. You can always get bloods done if u don't get your period by then, stranger things have happened.

GirlcalledJames · 03/07/2017 11:56

We had 2 bfns the day before and day of a very positive blood test. It was only the day after that that anything showed on the home test at all.
You should usually have the blood test even if you think your period has started as first trimester bleeding can be confusing. Our clinic insists on it.

Monasworldupsidedown6789 · 03/07/2017 11:59

Thanks guys. I'm in denial today. I should I have done the test and to hospital nurses but I can't. I think I know the answer, many of you guessed that its not gonna happen. I'll take test tomorrow morning but today I'm gonna cry out my heart out when I finish work. Get cuddles from my Hubby and face the truth tomorrow morning.
Only our heavenly Lord will tell us whether I'll ever have kids. Xx

Unfortunately it's not the heavenly lord who will help you have kids, it's medical science.

Look after yourself 💐 they were wrong not to tell you that you only had a 5% chance of success.
I hope you find a way to be a mum x

laurelstar · 05/07/2017 09:45

How cheeky 2014, if OP wishes to trust in God that's her business. Sadly science doesn't have anywhere near all the answers or the success rate would be much higher than 5%. Religious faith and the peace it can bring are very helpful for coping with IVF and infertility in my experience.

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/07/2017 17:56

if test is negative then yes sadly ivf has failed

there are options, it is much cheaper abroad if you are going to try again

and your age isnt favourable (sorry) so if you try again think about donor eggs

it took 5th private ivf attempts to finally get preg, was 43 tho 4&5 were a fet from cycle 3 when i was 41

we took out loans and put on credit cards and time wasnt my friend,

our daughter cost £27k in all and once got preg, had baby then yes worth all the money (and still paying off) and now she is 3mths

dont give your dream up but time isnt your friend x
