IVF & PCOS - how many eggs collected?

Avocadosmoothie · 01/06/2017 11:29

Hi everyone, for anyone who has PCOS and has had IVF, how many eggs did you have collected? Did you manage to get a fresh transfer or did you freeze? What AMH and AFC do you have?

Basically, I'm trying to get a feel for whether I will get OHSS and need to freeze. I have AMH of 56 and AFC of 34.

Thanks!!

Thanks both!

AutumnRose - I actually have PCO and not the syndrome too. Did you have to freeze your eggs before you transferred them back? The ones that have already turned into babies I mean! Are your twins identical? Just wondering if you had two embryos transferred? Thanks!

I have PVP but not the syndrome however i have low AMH OF 14.2. My DAD was 40 and they got 10 eggs out of me which is quite low for someone with polycystic ovaries

I had AMH of 69.

I had a very low dose of gonal f (I was actually trying to do ovulation induction for iui but I grew too many follicles so we converted to ivf so as not to waste the round).

I had 37 collected/33 mature/31 fertilised/29 made it to day 3/24 made it to day 5.

I did a freeze all cycle as my consultant was concerned about ohss - as it turned out he was right as I had mild, yet painful, ohss and was in bed for a week recovering post egg collection.

Of the 24 blastocysts, 4 weren't good enough to freeze. I had the remaining 20 biopsied and PGSed - 10 were normal and 10 abnormal, so am glad I did it as it potentially saved me a lot of heartache!

I transferred one frostie the next month and he's currently 5 months old.

Good luck! If you have no other issues han PCOS, ivf is likely to be successful for you - everyone I met on my fertility journey was always v confident and they were right.

Autumn Rose, if you've got the embryos already, you're just looking at a frozen embryo transfer and not IVF. It can be done as either a natural or medicated thing. Your doctor will be able to advise on the best option in your personal situation but I don't imagine the meds are nearly as bad as an IVF as you won't be growing 2-3 years'worth of eggs in the process ;)

Stealth Babana, what an impressive number of blasts! So jealous :D

autumn what the others said - you're looking at a frozen embryo transfer (FET). You can do it one of two ways - either just naturally (so have scans to check when you ovulate and then wait for 5 days post that and transfer your blast) or medicated - you take estrogen and then add progesterone for 5 days. No injections and very few symptoms. If you ov regularly I would go natural - why not?!

And yes best practice with that number of embies is to let them all go through to blast. If you'd only had a couple of embies then you can see why they might freeze then on day 1 but it seems crazy (and expensive!) to freeze 31!

I also felt really heavy and sore pre EC. I was expecting 15-20 eggs - with 37 I understand why!! My consultant doesn't do fresh transfers for PCOS patients and actually says he'd prefer to always do frozen transfers as he says the uterine environment is more stable once its had a chance to recover from all the stimulation.

Collected 25 eggs, 24 fertilised, 7 made it to day 5 blast and all frozen as I developed ohss.

I did a medicated FET - buserelin jabs for a couple of weeks then added in tablets and bum bullets to thicken up the lining. Was very happy with a medicated cycle - having PCOS means my cycles are fucked up and there's no telling what will happen in any given month. Also I had a holiday booked last sept and was great as meant I could just extend the DR stage another week. Clinic v accommodating on that.

On ET day the first 2 blasts didn't survive the thaw, but 3rd did. Glad we did FET instead of fresh as meant that the embryo which was put back was perfectly viable & strong.

I have PCO (no S) and got 8 eggs at collection. 5 fertilised and all made it to blastocyst (although one took 6 days to get there). 4 of these are now in the freezer and the other is now upstairs asleep in his cot at 8 months old.

I also have PCO and had 17 eggs collected, no OHSS (although I was very uncomfortable!!) and am now 14.5 weeks pregnant from a fresh transfer (with 10 in the freezer) Smile

Glasto, congratulations!!! It gives me hope that you didn't get OHSS. Do you remember what you AMH level and antra-follicle count was? Just wondering if my PCO is a similar level to yours.

Also, which days is it the most uncomfortable? The few days after EC or the few days before? Thanks!

Thank you 😀 I actually have no idea what my AMH was (it never occurred to me to ask until I started reading these threads). I think it was in the normal range, my problem was anovulation. I got told I had PCO after my baseline scan as I had more follicles visible. I was most uncomfortable after egg collection but I felt kinda 'full' for a few days beforehand and would get sharp pains if I got up too fast or twisted!
