Retrograde ejaculation - New

Hi all

So me and my boyfriend are TTC, we've just been to see a fertility consultant who has told us we don't qualify for NHS help as my boyfriend has a son from a previous relationship ... I am devastated :(

My boyfriend is type 1 diabetic and has had retrograde ejaculation for the past 6-8 years.
I have PCOS and endometriosis

I really don't think it is looking very positive for us as we aren't in a financial situation to pay privately.
We are willing to try anything from home (tablets, insemination etc)
Just wondered if anyone could give any advise/tips?

With your partner's retrograde ejaculation - is there actually any semen with sperms coming out? And what's he quality of the sperms like - is it possible for him to fertilise an egg? Adding to that the PCOS and endometriosis, is really doesn't look too good... Do you even ovulate?

As much as I believe in natural supplements and woo, it sounds like it would take an awful lot of medical help to achieve a pregnancy. Have you actually enquirer what procedures would be needed and how much they'd cost?

He is getting tested on 2nd June for the sperm count so we will know better then,

I ovulate yes, for any IVF treatment we are looking at approx £6,000 + any other medications needed first and after etc

There might be other treatments available. I've just looked at he NHS website and retrograde ejaculation can be treated with medication too

In addition, there are different supplements to improve sperm quality, e.g. Proxeed or Profertil

For yourself, if you're ovulating then that's a great start. Presumably, you'll get the endometriosis addressed? In addition, you could take vit E and omega 3 as that reduces the risk of endometriosis. There's also a lot of lifestyle adjustments that help with PCOS + supplements. Who knows, you might just have a chance without IVF. Good luck with all the tests.

I don't know about this but If you are in the UK google Mr Ramsey in London. He's a male fertility specialist and relatively cheap (compared to IVF!)

Hi there, I don't know whether you'll read this but my husband also has retrograde ejaculation through type 1 diabetes. I read online about using pseudoephedrine (the drug in over the counter Sudafed!) as it has been proven to help some men with this problem.

I decided to give it a go while we were waiting for infertility tests as I didn't want to just do nothing. Even the urology specialist said only surgery would get us pregnant.

Anyway, long story short, after trying for a couple of months with DH using Sudafed when I was ovulating, I am now 6 weeks pregnant!

I know your situation is more complicated but it might be worth trying while you are working out other options.
