Hi all,

I will be starting the IVF route shortly, and am new to mumsnet (first post actually). I was recommended me to Dr Amit Shah of Fertility Plus for IVF. However, I cant find any review online for either Dr Shah or the clinic itself. Their costs are quite high and I really would like all the information I can get before I commit.
Please is there anyone here who has either had experienced with one or both. I really would appreciate your assistance if you send me info here or privately.
Thanks a bunch and baby dust to all....

@Curious92 I'm on my sixth cycle now. Still not pregnant but I don't think that's anything Mr Gudi has or hasn't done. I'm happy with him. What aren't you sure of?

MomwithVibes · 21/04/2022 11:30

@kennetrose please can you tell us why 6th cycle .I mean not sure but I was thinking of going to treatment with Mr Gudi but they are not picking up phone. We were thinking of IUI not sure how good he is ...but read a review on trustpilot stating in 2 months couple were pregnant....

kennetrose · 21/04/2022 12:26

@MomwithVibes I did six medicated cycles. They didn't work but I don't blame him. Chances of medicated cycles and IUI with unexplained infertility are small no matter who the doctor is. I did a cycle of IVF in February with him. I'm now in my TWW after a FET on Monday. I like the clinic and Dr Gudi. The clinic is doctor-led rather than nurse-led like a lot of clinics, so you see a doctor at every appointment which means you find out what's going on during your appointment. If a clinic is nurse led, you'll usually be scanned by a nurse and then have to wait a few hours to be updated. It also means it's easy to ask lots of questions because the doctor will have the answers (and if they don't, no one does).

People who get pregnant quickly most likely will leave good reviews. I think you have to take them with a pinch of salt. Their experience doesn't impact your fertility.

yes i understand ....I actually have a son via IVF but it was doctors in India forcing you for IVF.... my husband has little bit lower sperm count .... the good quality sperm are bit less ... so was thinking for IUI for second one .... one doctor duped us in India when we conceived in India with him he stopped medicine(progesterone support) and hence I miscarried....then i changed doctor and conceived in first attempt....but other doctors had told me in India we are IUI patient not IVF... so wanted to try IUI ....hence was looking for good doctors rather than clinic that push to IVF.... hence needed suggestion....

MomwithVibes · 21/04/2022 12:44

after have gone through the painful process of infertility treatment in India and obviously with bad exp ... I feel I need doctor that make things work rather than pushing us for treatment which makes more money for clinic

MomwithVibes · 21/04/2022 12:47

please can anyone give me his clinic number as the one in google no one is picking

Hi all &
@kennetrose Wondering if anyone could share the costs for IVF at fertility plus? I have an initial consultation coming up so am not at that stage, but would like to be aware of roughly how more expensive it may be to stay on. I’ve seen a local clinic quite £7k for a cycle … Many thanks!

kennetrose · 01/11/2022 08:47

@Carlotta27 I think we paid £12,500 for one cycle. This included all the meds, up to two frozen transfers and first year of embryo storage. It's more expensive than some places but that price included everything so there weren't any surprises. Fertility Plus you also see the same doctor for every appointment. Other clinics I know you see nurses who then have to talk to the doctors so there can be a wait in getting answers to questions or updates to medication. I liked being able to see Dr Gudi at every appointment because I always have so many questions and he was always very patient explaining things to me. £7k sounds good but I would find out what is actually included for that price and whether there are extras you'd have to pay for.

kennetrose · 01/11/2022 08:48

oh, and that £12,500 was for IVF + ICSI. Without ICSI it would've been £11,500.

Carlotta27 · 01/11/2022 09:11

Hi @kennetrose thank you for sharing those details! One q - when you say that up to two frozen embryo transfers are included, does that mean the c£12k covers about three rounds ? Ie the fresh cycle and the two frozen transfers? Or are there extra costs per additional transfer?

Sorry one other q! I have a short Luteal phase and saw you did too. I was wondering how successful pessaries / medicate cycles before IVF can be? Were there any reasons these weren’t suitable for you ?

sorry, so many Qs as I’m at the start of the journey and so worried about what lies ahead!

appreciate your views on dr Gudi and I’m keen to see him now - thank you for that! xxx.

kennetrose · 01/11/2022 11:04

@Carlotta27 we always planned to do a frozen transfer as Dr Gudi was worried I might overrespond to stims and wanted me to have a cycle off between retrieval and transfer. I didn't overrespond in the end but I was grateful that I had the break just because I felt rubbish after the retrieval and took me a couple of weeks to feel normal again, was glad that I didn't have to worry about an embryo too.

Another benefit of planning for a frozen transfer is you can have a dual trigger which helps egg maturation, you can't have that if you do a fresh cycle as the second trigger used does something to your lining which means it wouldn't be receptive. Both reasons I like Dr Gudi - he definitely goes above and beyond a standard NHS offering, and treats you like an individual so tailors your protocol appropriately.

I think if you plan a fresh transfer it might be a little cheaper but depending on your AFC and egg reserve you might not be allowed.

I did six medicated cycles with letrozole, hCG and progesterone to treat my LP defect and no luck. Having gone through that and IVF I think that LP defect was a red herring and wasn't the reason we couldn't conceive. But I don't know what the actual reason was, we're truly unexplained.

Carlotta27 · 01/11/2022 11:07

@kennetrose thanks so much for sharing those details and taking time to reply. I’m so happy things have worked out for you as it’s giving me hope at an incredibly anxious and hopeless time !

good to know re frozen transfers - so those two extra transfers (if needed) were included in the total cost ? Good to know as that is then quite reasonable for three attempts at transfers if so …xxx

kennetrose · 01/11/2022 11:35

@Carlotta27 yeah so the £12500 (or £11500 if you don't do ICSI) just includes two frozen transfers, no fresh, so two attempts. Hopefully you only need one!

I feel very lucky! It's a real mystery as to why we couldn't conceive before IVF. My current theory is sperm was never meeting egg because my CM is really poor, but that's not really a medical definition of infertility haha. So who knows.

Carlotta27 · 01/11/2022 11:38

@kennetrose thanks for that! Yes these things can be such a mystery and game of luck and chance. Sending you and baby very healthy wishes! Hoping I can have success with Dr Gudi too x

Carlotta27 · 01/11/2022 15:33

Hi @user1493890728 did you end up meeting with dr Shah? I have been offered an appt with him in Dec but wondering if I should wait until Jan to see dr Gudi who I initially planned to see instead!

user1493890728 · 01/11/2022 17:18

Hi, thanks for reaching out. Yes we did meet with Dr Amit in 2017, did our treatment and had a set of beautiful twins in 2018. We used their ICSI process which is a bit more expensive than the IVF itself, followed his advice to do FET and barring my own issues, had the babies. They are thriving now. In 2021, we returned to him again and used the balance of our FE and now have a 3rd beautiful baby. I have referred a few of my friends to him, and they speak very highly of their encounters too. I have never met Dr Gudi but I can swear Dr Amit is the best fertility doctor I have met, not because it was successful for me the 1st time but because of his thoughtfulness, care, calming ways and just a wonderful man. Best of luck in your decision and I am happy to share more if you like.

hi @user1493890728 thank you so much for sharing those details and for the wonderful story about your family :)

im at the start of my journey so not looking into IVF yet but sounds like Dr Shah is well
positioned to support in general, which is reassuring to hear

if your don’t mind me asking, what were the particular issues that led you to IVF? Simply wondering in case it mirrors anything similar I experience

many thanks x
