AMH 0.6 at 34 ... looking for a little positivity

Hello,
Im 34 and have been diagnosed with POF.
My AMH is 0.6 :-( and I just had a scan which showed only 4 follicles in total.
I am still trying to learn all about IVF and really just come to terms with the whole situation.
My fiance and I have been trying for 2.5 years to conceive naturally with no luck. I have been told by a private Hospital in Bristol (I did not qualify for IVF on NHS) that I only have a 5% chance of IVF being successful using my own eggs...if they can even collect any.
Obviously I am absolutely devastated at this news and just wondered if there was anyone else out there who has had a similar experience...and maybe even a success story?
Or maybe if anyone has any recommendations of private clinics as I wasnt 100% comfortable that I liked the Hospital I visited in Bristol...or maybe it was more the outcome of the appointment that has clouded my judgement.

Thank you

Chintaria - I have just read back through posts about your AMH levels of 0.2 and the amount of eggs you got on collection etc. So happy things worked out for you. Can I ask, was this IVF at the clinic in Brussels you mentioned?

I am going to the CREATE open evening on the 11th May in Brum.

Good luck!

Good luck drinking the pond water 😂 Would it help to add it to a juice or milkshake? I tried the same sort of thing in water recently & gave up after a few mouthfuls!!
Yes, my successful round of IVF (actually ICSI) was at this clinic in Brussels. The first four were done somewhere else, and although I knew what they needed to do due to lots of research the first clinic refused to do it. Then my friend recommended this other clinic that she went to and they were just wonderful. They were positive from the outset & agreed with me about what I needed (steroids & ICSI) and it worked thank goodness.
I live in Belgium, and amazingly the majority of costs are covered by health insurance here, for up to six cycles, so although I don't know exactly how much it would've cost I remember being under the impression that it was much cheaper than the uk.
The clinic is called the CRG, and the website is www.crg.be
It's in Dutch, French & English, so just click on the yellow E for the English version. When I was there I saw a lot of patients that had just flown in for egg collections/transfers. The clinic was incredibly professional and the doctors all seemed to work coherently together. I was very impressed, and of course we got our precious dd out of it, so we'll forever be grateful to them.
If you do come over then let me know if you want to meet up for a cup of tea (caffeine free of course 😉)

Hello

I just thought I woukd post quickly to update everyone who has been so kind as to offer all their advice and kind words.

After attending the Create open evening in Birmingham last Thursday I was impressed
so booked a consultation for Monday this week. When I went in the consultant scanned me and I had a follicle that was just about to ovulate...I couldn't believe it! The doctor said to just go for it as I don't know when this would next happen naturally ..so...on Wednesday I had egg collection...1 egg was taken and today they have implanted a very healthy embryo! Im absolutely over the moon...I now have a very long 11 day wait to find out if our little embryo has decided to stay in its new home! But so far....things are going so well. I woukd never have looked into Create Fertility if it wasn't for suggestions on here...so...thank you! :-)

I had secondary infertility and was eventually diagnosed with very low AMH- had IVF at the Lister and first attempt was successful. She is now 7! So another vote for the Lister here. Good luck.

Great news!

I was there at the Birmingham open evening. I thought Dr Sattar did a great job explaining especially after some unnecessarily aggressive questioning from one particular attendee. However great to hear your news!

freya1982 · 20/05/2017 19:13

Hi fishface199,

I did look around at everyone there and wonder who you were! :-)
I know, that "question man" was extremely rude and aggressive but Dr Datta did handle it very well. He's actually been wonderful during the whole process. I have seen the other consultant (Dr Felix) for egg collection, she too was lovely.
Hope things are going well for you? X

I think there was a lady who asked a question about nutrition I did wonder whether that was you? If so me and my husband were sitting on the same row a few places down! I was the one who asked about cycle cancellations rates.

I liked Dr Datta (sorry did mispell) and we were lucky enough to have a mini consultation pre presentation. We are still looking at clinics at the moment and due to my issues really being age related I don't know whether CREATE would be right at the moment but am definitely keeping them in mind.

The question man annoyed me because he was hostile and seemed to lack genuine understanding. Eg asking about the clinics live birth rates. When the doctor replied "we have only be open a year" and quoted sister clinic rates, question man would not let it go ( "I want to know the stats for this clinic not one 300 miles away!".) I thought "how can you have a live birth rate for someone treated 2,3,4 etc months ago??" I thought his ego driven effort to seem like some sort tough inquisitor was ruining it for those genuinely interested in obtaining facts.

Anyway sorry rant over! Genuinely happy for you and will keep my fingers and toes crossed!

Great news OP. It only takes one! Fingers crossed it sticks for you!

Awesome, congratulations! I came to offer my positive low AMH story but I can see you don't need it. Amazing that you started this thread just over a month ago and now you're pregnant. Everything crossed for a happy and healthy pregnancy!

user1496604596 · 04/06/2017 22:56

Hi All

Sorry to hear this Freya. It really feels like such a blow to be told this. I quite understand. I will be following this thread too for similar reasons. I am 36 & got married in Jan. Stopped the pill. 2-3 months OPKs negative. No big deal I thought. Being a GP, I knew about AMH & did one privately (as not easily accessible on NHS via GP) for reassurance! 1st result 1.3pmol/L. Repeat (with finger crossed), even worse 0.5pmol/L. AFC showed just 2 follicles on 1 ov & 1 on the other. AFC fertility specialist said AMH in keeping with my AFC & FSH. She seemed to be saying look to egg donation.

I do know how you feel. Healthwise, I have been pretty luck. I would say I follow a pretty jealthy lifestyle.

Doesn't help when I terminated a pregnancy 9 yrs ago. Circumstances & practicality meant I had to. After this my friends & I used to say ' can you imagine if that's the only baby you conceive. how awful would that be.'

Some of these positive stories of pregnancies occurring despite the 'undetecable' AMHs are what have kept me going, they really have & I have read several Freya. The ones that make me brim are the natural conceptions!

user1496604596 · 04/06/2017 22:59

I didn't read that post from 1/6 -that's wonderful new!

user1496604596 · 04/06/2017 23:02

Has anyone used Create in London and had as good an experience as Freya??

greatbigbushybeard · 04/06/2017 23:09

Hi Freya. My amh was awful, basically the 2nd to last category so sub fertile & we'd been trying 2 years. We undertook ivf, became pg but things were a bit rocky & sadly ended in miscarriage. We were due to start a second cycle about 4 months later when I fell pg naturally. I went on to have my star baby who will be 2 in July & now pregnant again naturally. I haven't read the rest of the thread but wanted to show you that there can be hope. I was 36. I really hope things work out for you. I know how horrible it can all be.xx

user1496941152 · 10/06/2017 22:41

Hi Freya,
Huge congrats on your BFP! Sounds like create in Birmingham were wonderful. I'm in a similar situation and just found out my AMH is less than 1.1 and my FSH is 55...eek. Worried I am completely menopausal and having hot flushes and hat I have run out of time.
I just wondered if you knew what your FSH had been?
Congratulations again and wishing you a safe and happy pregnancy,

freya1982 · 23/06/2017 17:34

Hi user1496941152

I'm so sorry to here you are having trouble too. I only had my FSH done twice and I think one was 12 and one was high 30's. It totally depends on when you have it done.
When I first went to bristol for a consult they told me they woukd have to do bloods the morning I started a period to check if all my hormone levels were suitable to go ahead and start ivf drugs as they fluctuates so much. At create in Birmingham then didn't even test Mr FSH. .He said "we know that will be high, what is the point in testing" they simply tested my Oestrogen level day before egg collection.

Honestly do not give up hope as it is totally possible. If you AMH was zero o woukd not be so positive but your AMH is higher than mine! You still have eggs....you jist have to make sure that the eggs you do have are as healthy as possible...a massive diet overhaul was, I'm absolutely convinced, the reason this worked for me. Look into egg health as much as you can and start making changes now. I also believe this is working so far (fingers crossed) as we used the one egg that was to be released by my body naturally....and not stimulated via drugs. Absolutely look into natural IVF...they said to me there is not much point with conventual IVF anyway as if, like us, you have a low egg reserve there is no befit to overstimulating to get lots of eggs as they just aren't there!

I wish you all the luck in the world...never lose hope...It takes only one egg! :-) x

P.s things are going well....We had a little heartbeat at our 6 weeks scan...fingers crossed things continue this well.

Hi Freya1982, thanks fir your message and apologies for the delay- I'm new to these forums (well writing on them anyway!) and couldn't find the thread! Anyway, really pleased to hear that you had a little heartbeat and really hope that everything is progressing smoothly. I've also now signed on withDr Datta a,though not been able to properly start a cycle yet because my LH has been too high. Grrr! Really hoping that the modified natural route will be able to harvest an egg and we'll be able to have another child. Can I just ask if there was anything specific you did fir your 'diet overhall'? I've been trying to cut down on sugar and not drunk caffeine in yonks but not been great the last month I must admit. Trying to keep positive and thank you again for sharing your story, it helps so much to hear a good news story. All the best with your pregnancy. Xx
