IUI

I have been trying to research IUI treatment and have just ended up even more confused. Some websites say one thing and then the next totally blows the previous out of the water. So, what can IUI be used for? To bypass problems with the fallopian tubes? Contradictory information on that. Is it used when someone ovulate normally? I think the actual NHS site is the worst as they sort of word it as a forbidden choice, yet others recommend it for all sorts. Just after some clarification I suppose.

It's got very low success rates, that's why no doubt the NHS hate it, as they see it as a waste of money. It's really for couples with delayed ejaculated, hostile cervical mucus etc. And it wouldn't do any good with people with problems to the fallopian tubes as I believe the iui tube shoots sperm up through the cervix, if an egg gets fertilized it then travels down the fallopian tube, into the womb where it will hopefully implant. A woman with no tubes is sent for ivf.
Some places give iui a shot before ivf and sometimes people do get lucky, it's just wasting time or money doing it instead of IVF which has got a lot higher success rate.

My Dr said IUI is a waste of money unless you are using frozen or donor sperm or have very mild male factor

If you have no male factor then there's no benefit to stimulated IUI vs stimulated ovulation induction with timed intercourse

If you have anything more than mild male factor then IUI is a waste of money as you need IVF with ICSI

All IUI does is put the sperm a couple of inches higher up so the sperm has slightly less far to swim

It's poor value for money for such low success rates.

I got 3 rounds of medicated IUI (once with clomid then 2 on injectibles) through my hospital on the NHS. I'm in the unexplained category so ovulate normally, no male factor etc. It has low success rates as others say - all 3 failed and we're moving onto IVF next year.
