Private laparoscopy- recommendations?

Hi all,

After 3 years of unsuccessfully TTC (unexplained) and lots of pain every month (mainly in my right hand side - unexplained also) I've decided on a private laparoscopy to see if we can work out what's going on. NHS aren't interested as they can't see anything on ultrasound so say it's not the cause of the infertility and aren't concerned about the pain.

Just wondering if anybody in the London area has had one privately in a clinic that they would recommend? Also, an idea of costs would be great.

Thanks so much!

I had this procedure (went on to have IVF) - under Mr Curtis and I had the lap at the Mount Alvernia Hospital in guildford. It was lap, endo removal, tube unblock and ovary drilling. From memory £3,850 for the procedure, probably up to £1k of consultation and blood tests etc (albeit that was 5 months of clomid too). Lovely hospital and good care. Not sure where in town you are but gford is a 35 min train out so not too offensive.

Hi Icy, thanks so much for getting back to me. That's really helpful - I'll definitely look them up as Guildford is doable. The price doesn't sound as bad as I expecting which is good!

Mr Curtis is a local gynae hero; he rebuilt my pal's mum's foof back up!

Haha - thanks I shall bear that in mind! Wink

If you can go private then great, but if not I would try to see another gp - it's sounds like you have classic endometriosis symptoms, which can only be diagnosed with a lap (they would usually treat at the same time to give you a good clear out).

If it is endo then clearing out would give you a good chance of a natural pregnancy for the first few months after.

Something to bear in mind - the lap might be affordable but how many rounds of ivf would you get on the NHS? It may be worth saving the money in case you need it for that if you can get the lap done on the nhs.

Waiting times depend on area, but i only had to wait 6 months the first time and 4 months the second time.
