Grade B blastocysts??

Quick background: we have fresh embryo transfer in April - the embryo turned out to be our son who we lost when I was 20 weeks pregnant due to infection and cervix issues. He was graded AAAA which is the top of the top.

We have two beans on ice and both are graded 4B. Is that good? It sounds pretty shit to me. Does that mean the success rate of getting pregnant is lower?

I had a 4BC blastocyst transferred on Friday. Our 4AB one didn't survive the thaw

I've been googling and come to the conclusion that the grades don't mean much as have read equal amounts of accounts of high grade ones working/not working and low grade ones working/not working !!!

Oops. That should have read 1AA!

It's all a bit of a stress isn't it?! I am googling like mad too and I've gathered that generally there is a less success rate the lower down the grading scale you go but ultimately you hear different stories and successes from even very poor quality day 2 or day 3 transfers.

I'm also paranoid neither will survive the thaw. Really don't want to have to do a fresh cycle and start from scratch all over again :(

I was a bit sad our 4AB didn't survive the thaw but I've decided to see it as just another 'test' to see which embryo is the strongest. I'd rather know on transfer day than have a 2ww and bfn

I had a 3BC and a captivating morula (pre-blastocyst) implanted and one of them resulted in my son. We lost him at 21weeks due to cervix issues. We don't have any embryos frozen so starting a fresh cycle soon. We had another embryo at 5CC but they recommended it wasn't frozen as it was too poor quality.

The number refers to maturity so 1 isn't the best, just the youngest. Two 4Bs sound pretty good to me! Good luck x

Thanks Blueroses. I know they wouldn't freeze the embryo if they didn't think it was viable but 4BB seems pretty on the cusp of being poor quality.

I also lost my son (at 20 weeks) because of cervix issues! It was a complete slap in the face after all the pain of IVF. I might PM you if that's okay? Haven't spoken to or met anyone in the exact position as me xx

Embryo grading just says how 'pretty' the embryo is

It doesn't say anything about its genetic integrity

I know women who've done PGS and their supposedly top quality AA embryos were duds whilst a supposedly poor quality BC embryo was genetically perfect and now a beautiful baby girl.

I had PGS and all my abnormal embryos were 'good quality' (ie morphologically) grading

Never has 'don't judge a book by its cover' been more true than with embryos!

It's devastating isn't it?! Just as you start to relax after getting safely through the first trimester. It's coming up to 3 months since I lost my son. Please do get in touch, there's not many of us in this position xx

I had two embryos transferred due to poorer quality. One was a B, the other B-. I was given a 26% chance of success but it thankfully worked. My gorgeous girl is now nearly 16 weeks old.

Osirus thank you for sharing that. Sadly the clinic won't let me put back to embryos because of my cervix issues so I'll have to chance it with 1 at a time :(

Well...the grading is very subjective to each clinic. There is a general rule how to grade them but some clinics are "tougher" on the grading than others.

As long as they are blasts, they all are very good quality embryos.

We had several embryos after ICSI procedure. The best one was 5AB and ended in chemical. The rest are 2BB blasts.

I am currently 9weeks with our 2BB who thawed 100%.

Like with most things, try not to focus on grades/marks etc.

I got a BFP from a grade 4BC embryo last week! It's early days for me now, waiting for a scan to feel more secure, but I wanted to post it here.

The advice to not focus on grades seems to be good. I worried a lot the first night after transfer but was given similar advice. Our frosties only partially survived thaw so had been downgraded, the 2nd wasn't good enough to freeze but I chose to only put 1 back.
