25, Perimenopause - is egg freezing an option?

I am 25 and just been told that I am in perimenopause. I haven't had a period in a year and while I kind of expected bad news, I am very upset. I am thinking about egg freezing and I was wondering if somebody has experience with egg freezing. What should I consider etc? I am childless but now I really want to have 1-2 children.

I'd think egg freezing would be a good idea in your case. Clinics these days use 'vitrification' which is a newer method of freezing and which has resulted in many more live births than the old method of freezing. As you are so young, your egg quality ought to be good, so the main issue will be how easy it is to stimulate your body to produce a reasonable number of eggs.

I haven't done this myself - I am the opposite to you , with lots of eggs but likely to be lots of abnormality because I'm in my 40s. But I don't think the process itself is too onerous. It would be like an IVF cycle, which is nowhere near as daunting as it sounds. You need to speak to a specialist really to find out how they rate your chances of producing eggs in response to stimulation. If they are not optimistic or if it doesn't work, you still have the option of using a donor egg. I know that would be a lot to get your head around, but I know a number of families who have used egg or sperm donors and it has worked out well for them.
