Progesterone supplement in a natural cycle?

We have been TTC for over a year and I am 42. I have a box of progesterone pessaries left over from our last IVF attempt. As usual, we have tried naturally this month and I am wondering whether I may as well just use them anyway, on the theory that they won't do any harm and might help support any possible pregnancy. I am about 1 DPO at the moment.
We are due to start IVF round 2 when AF next comes. Can anyone see any downside to using the progesterone? I had no side effects from it previously.

Do you actually need it? I can't see there being any downsides, but if there's no medical need, it's just a waste.

Is it about to go out of date? Why not keep it for your next round?

Thanks Tootsie . The drugs for my next IVF are already ordered and paid for, I'll have plenty for that. As to whether or not I need it, my lining was fine in my last IVF before I started the progesterone, which is prescribed to all patiets as routine. I'm not aware that they give it during IVF because the IVF process makes the body less likely to produce enough of its own; I thought it was just belt and braces. Therefore it seems to me that if there is anything at all I can do t give this cycle its best possible chance I should do it.

I take it back, I have just read that the ovulation suppressor they giveyou in IVF to make sure you don't ovulate early can indeed reduce natural progesterone production.

For non-IVF the main theory is that progesterone may help with recurrent miscarriage (there's a trial ongoing with results soon to be published). I have had a chemical before but not recurrent miscarriage.

Will just leave it and hope that nature is doing its thing. I can't help hoping that we will become one of those anecdotal couples who get pregnant while waiting for IVF.
