Chlamydia antibodies

Hi all

we have been struggling to conceive for 18 months now and my Dr told me I had slightly elevated chlamydia antibodies show from my bloods. I've been reading and reading and from what I gather this means there is a good chance I have blocked tubes.

I'm upset this has only been highlighted on a second trip to my Dr and she picked up on it skimming down my notes and not earlier. We have fertility appointment booked for January and I'm terrified this is the reason for our infertility.

Has anyone been told they have chlamydia antibodies but tubes are fine?

This is really upsetting me not knowing

I had chlamydia years ago. Had symptoms, so took antibiotics. That cleared it up. Not sure about antibodies, as I don't recall what they checked. Tubes did not end up blocked, as I had DS subsequently.

I was told this. Never had it as far as I was aware so never treated for it. I was very worried what they would find when I had my laparoscopy.

All was fine. No problems and I worried for nothing.

BTW even if this was the reason for your infertility, you shouldn't be terrified. It can be treated and sometimes a treatable condition is preferable to unexplained infertility when it feels like everything is being chucked at the problem in the hope that something will work!

Thank you for your replies, this eased my mind a little. It's literally all I have been thinking of and its getting me so down.

moti may I ask how long it took you to conceive your ds?

About 3 months. I had 2 "chemical" pregnancies, I think due to I was not taking folic acid vitamins - at least the doctor suggested it after the second. Or, perhaps because I was 42 yo. Do you take FA vitamin? Just curious about whether this is common advice from doctors or only for older women.

I do yes, I think it's advised to all women ttc. I had two positive tests on Internet cheapie tests, two months in a row but they were negative the next day so I think they were faulty tests although I cling to the hope that they were positive and I did actually concieve those months

Well, DS's dad was 24, and I think he could have gotten a loaf of bread pregnant. That may sound off, but if one's biological clock is ticking loud enough, one might not hear the voice of reason. Anyway, it all turned out fine. So, yes, keep struggling. Because, on any given Sunday ...

Hi. I had a "hidden" chlamydia infection (i.e. it didn't show up with vaginal swabs done for IVF, but a test on menstrual blood showed elevate levels higher up). I had the tests through Serum in Greece, when I'd had several failed rounds of IVF. My tubes weren't blocked.
DH and I followed Serum's treatment (it's a month of antibiotics and you both need to follow it) and we're carrying on with IVF. It was another "what if" to eliminate from my point of view...

Hi purple sorry to hear of your failed ivf rounds, I hope you don't have to go through much more to get your baby. Do you know the reason for your infertility if the infection had caused no issues?

Yes - it's secondary infertility - we had DS with no difficulty at all - but he was breech and I had a c-section. It turned out that they had tangled one of my tubes round my uterus and this pulled the uterus out of alignment, which made it practically impossible to conceive from the other ovary. Unfortunately, nobody ever said that a c-section can cause secondary infertility and I didn't have full investigations for 5 years (just when we were beginning to have investigations, I did conceive again - had an early mc, but they stopped looking because we had conceived.)
Eventually, I had full investigations (new job, insurance paid: there's no funding for secondary infertility investigations and the investigative surgery was £££££) - and they fixed the adhesions, but by then I was 40 and past my sell-by date. I had 3 rounds of IVF with my own eggs and now 3 with donor eggs - but the Serum treatment was recent, so I'm hoping it may change things.

Did you decide to have further testing, or any treatment for this? I would recommend the Serum treatment....it ends up costing about £200 for the testing and £25-30 for the antibiotics as you will need a private prescription, but this is a drop in the ocean compared with full-on fertility treatment....

I had clamdya and I’ve had lots of failed ivf from it I aslo went to serum and I’m still working with them clamdya in very small cases can cause silent pid I think that happend to me as now I can’t get pregnant and keep miscarrying but I won’t stop trying
