Anyone who understands AMH/FSH levels that could help me?!

Hi all

My dr is not very forthcoming and/or easy to talk to. I found an IVF success rate calculator on the lister clinic website and so therefore asked if I could have my AMH and FSH levels to plug into it. The results of the calculator seemed to come out as quite promising but the numbers I'm putting in mean nothing to me. Can anyone interpret for me whether they are low/average/high etc?

I am 30 years old 2 years ttc number 2 and my AMH level is 16.5 with FSH 6.5.

This means absolutely nothing to me but I would like to understand them a bit better. Can anyone help?!

Thanks you xx

Your results are completely normal- good in fact if you are thinking about doing ivf. With amh, the higher the better, and with fsh the lower the better (ideally under 10 which obviously yours is). Obviously these numbers don't guarantee anything, but they do suggest you will produce sufficient numbers of eggs for ivf. My amh is very low (around 3) and I did ivf last year - I only produced 2 eggs, so your numbers suggest you will produce a decent number of eggs- the more you get the better chance of success (statistically).

Thanks chattycat that's good to know. I put my numbers into the calculator and it seemed to have about a 70% live birth rate for 2 cycles so sounds quite promising. But the numbers meant nothing to me and I'm one of these people who wants to know every single little thing :)

Was you ivf successful if you don't mind me asking?

I was very very lucky- yes it worked and it was our first free nhs go. The fact that it worked though showed me that egg quality is the most important thing- ie it worked despite only having 2 eggs! The fact that you are young will be on your side in that regard. Make no mistake though- ivf is very tough emotionally and is a real roller coaster. Are u starting it soon?

Oh that's great I'm so pleased it worked for you!

Today we had our first round of IUI however my husbands count was low (4 million post wash) and everything I've read is saying that for success you really need over 5 million and ideally over 10! We are going to give it a try for a couple of months but to be honest I feel like I've written it off already and am going to start looking into ivf from now as I'm just finding to endless failure month on month so hard. I know that there would be no guarantees with ivf but at least we would have a better chance of an egg at least being fertilised!

I'm thinking about natural protocol as so far they have found no issues with me and the idea of all the drugs scares me.

Don't give up on IUI, we had three cycles, two ended in a bfp and one of those gave us our DS. That cycle was 8 million post wash but sperm were noted as sluggish!

When you only need one, five million is a lot!

Good luck Flowers

Thanks CantSay :) I think part of looking ahead is trying to protect myself from the disappointment of the IUI failing. After a mope yesterday I'm going to try and think positive thoughts for the 2ww. Pleased to hear IUI worked for you.
