Private appointment for clomid - how much will it cost?

Hi All

Just as the title suggests. Does anyone have any idea on the costs of a private appointment and any necessary tests to be put on clomid. Nhs is taking forever and after 26 months of ttc #1, a pregnancy in month 24 followed by a mc early on and now 2 cycles of not ovulating I need some help. Fertility clinic just keep sending me away and won't see me again until early next year (where they said next step was IVF but that was when I had ovulated a few times and now I'm not again) and don't think I can wait that long as I'm going totally nuts!

I've had a hycosy which came back all clear and have had blood tests to check for ovulation but the bloods have never been done at the right time of the month and were done about a year before I started ovulating. SA came back all good.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Usually initial costs are on clinics websites - so if there is one you are interested in worth looking it up. Our private clinic accepted the NHS blood tests as long as they were within last 12m and I had print outs of them.
from memory the initial fee is around £200. Actual private prescription cost privately as well.

A private NHS prescription has just cost me £200 Shock

We paid £160 to see the consultant who wrote to our GP and asked him to prescribe Clomid for us as we would be seeing him, the consultant, at the NHS clinic for IVF should clomid not work.

It's not just the prescription you will pay for. The appt with the consultant will be anything from 150-200. My prescription for one month of clomid was 15 I think. Then you'll need blood tests to see if it's working and likely a follow up with the consultant which will be another 150-200.

£150-£200 for initial consultation. Prescription wasn't much I think somewhere around £20 then scans to check what is going on with ovulation which I think we're about £200 per cycle.

Thank you ladies for your responses! So we are looking at about £450 for a month. That is not anywhere near as bad as I had thought.

Sounds like £180 per month all in is not too bad then! Confused

Just one more question....

Will they prescribe you clomid without blood tests and just with your say so about the negative opk's? The nhs clinic believe my lack of ovulation without any concrete evidence from blood tests so hope the private clinic would be the same. Hoping that when I get my negative test a week on Friday I'll try to book in and hopefully start clomid next cycle. But don't want it to all be delayed by blood tests etc by a month or 2 as by then it will be time to go back to nhs.

They can go on your previous blood test results mine did.
Just write them down when you visit your GP (or ask for them to be printed off).
Good luck.

Angeldelight123 · 13/10/2015 10:55

I doubt they will prescribe without blood results. Good luck hope you get sorted soon!

So would you normally go back to your gp before having private treatment? I have had 2 blood tests but the results were a total mess. Do you need to tell your gp? Is it not a waste of their time going in just to get blood results or to tell them you're going privately?

If you are going private I would ring the clinic and ask if they need a referral from your GP as some places won't see you without. If no referral is required I would ask your GP for blood results (some places may charge you for this) so you have something to discuss at your first appointment. Hope that helps.
