Embryoscope- opinions?

Last cycle first we heard about it was minutes after collection. Felt very angry that we were asked to make a big financial decision at such an emotional time. After collecting 9 eggs we were willing to go ahead but it turned out only 2 could be injected (ICSI). Then had day 2 transfer. Afterwards we felt we'd been conned a bit and that we wouldn't use it this time. Then this morning we have four out of 5 injected eggs which have fertilised and do we want to use the embryoscope as we might be able to get them to blastocyst.

DH is against it and thinks it's emotional blackmail and that if its that successful it should just be part of the package and we pay more at the start (which I agree) but that there's no point as research is so conflicting.

However I'm totally blackmailed and feel we can't not use it. So we are but if it doesn't work out its another grand to save for the next cycle.

Feeling confused and rooting for our embies ... Confused

Hi, as I understand things the embryoscope could be a useful tool as it provides a bit more info on the development of your embryos which can help select the best ones to transfer. If you're planning a double transfer then it's only ever worthwhile even thinking about if you have a few embryos to start with. I think embryos go in on day of fertilisation check and come out on day 5. 4 embryos is probably borderline, as they may not all get to day 5, in which case the selection of which to transfer is straightforward. I would ask the embryologist what would be the percentage difference in success rates they might expect by using this tool based on you're own numbers. Then you might be able to put some sort of financial value on it against putting the cost of another cycle. Good luck to you.

Thanks all. Our NHS hospital didn't recommend it as the research is very 50/50 and poor quality eggs can still make a baby - a friend of mine had a grade 4 who is now her 6 yo daughter.

Anyway, it's done and I've got some well behaved embryos being popped back in tomorrow. Fingers crossed!
