Fertility clinics in London

My husband and I have just joined this site. We have been trying for a baby since last December (9 months) and we haven't fallen pregnant yet. I started my periods when I just turned 11 (I don't know if that matters). I have PCOS (polycystic ovaries) and have had since I was about 15 years old I think. I had a scan and blood test in my twenties to confirm this. I do ovulation strips days after I have my period so I know I do ovulate. We have been to the docs and have had tests done (smear test, blood test and semen test), my husband needs to repeat his semen test as one focal plane(?) was inconclusive. My husband is turning 41 this year and I will be turning 35 so we are concerned that we aren't falling pregnant. We want to look into fertility clinics in London and want to ask if anyone knows of any good clinic that they can recommend to us. We would welcome any advice and insights into becoming pregnant and about fertility clinics. We don't really know where to start, what to look out for or ask. Thank you for all your help in advance.

Hi OP

I'm fairly suspicious of fertility clinics, especially ones which advertise. They're raison d'être is to make money, rather than treat the patient.

I'm seeing a consultant based in surrey. He does private and NHS work and so I've been for tests/treatments at a number of venues, but under his guidance.

I'd highly recommend this as an approach, because finding the cause of the infertility will go a long way to solving it, rather than a fertility clinic where they're much more keen to get you on a treatment plan (and btw have you seen our funding finance options...)

Before you do anything else, read the Dr Robert windston book Essential Fertility - he covers the entire process, and what you can and should do before IVF. Then find a doctor to work with.

I'm still not pregnant after 2 years now, but I feel better about it on the basis I've done sequential steps of treatment. I've got pcos so had a laparoscopy and ovarian drilling. Whilst he was in there my doc also found extensive endometriosis (which would explain my crippling period pains). I'm 3 months post op and waiting to see him again. I think If I'd had 3 failed IVF cycles by now instead, i'd feel a whole load fucking worse than I already do (which is saying something because some days I feel as if my world has ended and I've consoled myself in the past with the thought of "if it never ever happens and it I feel so bad and it comes to all of that, I could always just opt out of life" - so safe to say I've felt fairly horrific). I might still need IVF, but I've armed myself with more knowledge of options before making that decision.

As most posts are from over a year ago, I was wondering if there are any mums 42+ out there that have recently used an IVF clinic in London or elsewhere with successful results.

I am 42 and I am in search for clinics preferably in London (but open to go elsewhere if they are indeed good and care about their patients) for IVF treatment with your own eggs.

I am also very keen to hear of other women who became pregnant with IVF and their own eggs post the age of 42+ and the clinics they used.

I am quite overwhelmed with the costs involved (as we are not very rich) and as NHS covers absolutely nothing for women 40+ and also scared as the more I read, the more I realize that most clinics do not care for the individual and the fact that for them having a baby means the world to them.

@marmaladeandjam11 I’m so sorry for your experience. I’m so upset with them at the moment. I had the same experience and I carried on. I just found out the do three types of packages. Unlimited, 100% money back guarantee and three cycles for a package deal all dependant on age and some tests. I wasn’t told a thing! Until one nurse pulled me into a room to whisper it to me. I wrote to them to ask why they didn’t tell me. My doctor forwarded it on the the financial manger who basically said tough luck you should have researched it and ther fliers are everywhere but we will look into seeing they are more visible. I’m ENRAGED

I want some bloody money back! I’m thinking of going to ARGC but I am so in debt I just don’t know what to do.

And I’ve travelled from overseas to have this done here. Due to the fact that I thought the UK would be most ethical. What a joke.

They are money making on people’s vulnerability. Disgusting. I want to know what to do now....
