Pcos fertility treatment - what should I expect if going private versus Nhs?

In particular - waiting time and length of time to first treatment.

My Nhs letter came through today and it said that the waiting time for initial consultation is 30 days and then an additional 18 weeks to start of treatment

Would this be much improved if going private?

6-7 months away for start of treatment seems very far away to me.

I had NHS treatment. I don't remember waiting a long time but it was the same consultant either way.

I did however see an endocrinologist who pumped me full of a mega dose of metformin. I then had a procedure called ovarian drilling and bingo, a month later I was pregnant.

Didn't need any treatment second time around.

I've had some private treatment in the past (not just for fertility) - you can often get an initial appointment within a week, and I've had operations within a month following that. So yes, private treatment is generally much faster !

I imagine that going private will be quicker.

when I had a pcos diagnosis from an ulrasound scan, the dr referred me and got all the blood tests done in preparation. about 4 weeks later I saw a nurse. She checked I had done all the right blood tests etc. and advised me on keeping a good diet, weight, exercise and lots of sex and then got an appointment with a consultant for 5 months later. I was pregnant by then. So not sure how long after that I would have started treatment.

From what I have heard of private you would probably start treatment within a few weeks of all the tests. (depending on where you were in a cycle etc.)

It's a lot quicker, I had literally 6 weeks between ivf first being mentioned as a possibility and getting my BFP.

That would feel like a long time to wait for me as well. There may be other clinics that you could be referred to on the NHS that would not have such a long wait, perhaps? I am currently an NHS funded patient and although the wait for the first consultation was about 5 weeks or so, after that things got moving very quickly and the timings were dependent on my cycle rather than the clinic's waiting list. I think we had our first consultation in early December and then I started the downregging in early January.

If you can't change clinics though for whatever reason then yes private would probably be a lot faster.
