Can endometrial lining be too thick?!

Hello,

I knew that there is a school of thought that a lining can be too thin for implantation and the ideal is over 7-8mm, but does anyone have any knowledge of lining being too thick? I've googled and have found widely conflicting information and no studies as such.

To put it this question into context. I had a failed ivf fresh cycle in October last year. Didn't think to ask about lining, but since found out it was 17mm at time of embryo transfer.

This month I'm having a natural FET. Yesterday was day 12 and my lining was 13.7mm. I suspect I will ovulate on day 15 and ET will take place 6 days after that so I assume my lining will keep on getting thicker. Is that bad?

I asked the nurse during the scan if thickness was ever a problem and she said absolutely not and asked where I'd heard that. My google response was a bit shaming! She said that I have the 3 layers of lining and that is more important than thickness (or even thinness).

Would really love thoughts/experience on this as I would hate the thought of wasting a frostie if conditions aren't perfect for it.

Thank you.

Hi Allchat I hope you are well? I have everything crossed for your frostie cycle!

As far as I am aware, for uterine lining, the thicker the better (so says my consultant)

Lovely and welcoming for your little embie to make itself comfortable Smile

Hey hen! I'm ok. How you doing?

thanks for info and even better that it's from your consultants mouth. Makes me feel a bit more at ease. Spent first half month worrying about getting lining thick enough then stupid google sends me in to panic mode! I should know better by now.

Still welcoming any other MNetters thoughts? x

Hi allchat

I'm the opposite and worry that mines too thin due to fairly light periods... Intrigued to know what you did to 'thicken yours up'? X

Hi. I get the feeling mine has always tended to be on the thick side naturally as my period is quite heavy the first day and there is visible lining shredded. I have however done acupuncture as I believe this helps. I've also been taking fertility drugs prescribed by acupuncturist that specifically helps such things.

I did come across post though about thinking lining naturally and things like raspberry tea and vitamin E cropped up. I'm sure it's easy to find if you google it.

Good luck.

'Thickening' not 'thinking'!

Hi All sorry to hear your first ivf didn't work. I have a similar problem with v thick lining. On my first ivf cycle I think mine went up to 19mm. My consultant wasn't bothered and said that it couldn't be too thick. However when I went in for a baseline scan on day 2 for my next ivf my lining was 8mm and my consultant wouldn't proceed at that point. I had to have a hysteroscopy, biopsy and they removed most of my lining. The biopsy came back as normal and I went on to have ivf again which didn't work despite my lining being 10 mm. I then had my 3rd ivf 3 months later and I finally got a BFP. On that cycle my lining was 16mm at transfer. I was really worried about my thick lining but my consultant remained adamant it was fine and obviously I still got a BFP even with thick lining so I guess he was right!
Good luck with the FET Smile

Thanks nocupcakes. Thats useful. So far i have 3 direct consultants/nurses say that thick lining isn't a factor so i'm holding on to that. Just hoping to ovulate now! so that I can do transfer asap!
i also had a natural mc in-between failed fresh cycle and this FET cycle, so I did shed a lot of lining then because I bled for just over 2 weeks.

I know this is an old thread but wondering if you came to a conclusion. I had ec last week and am doing a freeze all due to over responding. However at my first scan on stimms the consultant said my lining was already thicker than it should be even though at that point I was under responding and then on my second scan after upping the dose a different consultant said my womb lining was shocking and that he would have had no intention of doing a fresh implantation aside from the fact I overresponded. I think it was about 14mm at that point. If you went on to have further cycles did they do anything differently?
