Starting IVF/ICSI this month - anyone want to join the journey?

After over 2.5 years TTC, we're FINALLY about to start our fertility treatment this month (ICSI). My nurse and husband forbade me from chats and forums, but after following MN threads over recent years I think it would be a great help to share the experience with those going through the same thing.

Anyone else want to share the joys/terrors of belly injections, hormonal madness and a series of medical professionals poking around your nether regions?! And, of course, hopefully a BFP at the end of it all Smile

Oh allchat I'm so sorry to hear that, I know nothing anyone can say will help but we are all thinking of you x

Verkey81 · 29/01/2015 06:55

Good luck to you too today Phoenix I'm just sat waiting for him to finish getting ready so we can go, got to be there for 7.45, also an hour away so should have left at 6.30am but as usual he's taking his time getting ready Angry grrrr! Everywhere we go, he does this! No make up, nothing for me and up in a couple of minutes, half an hour to get ready and not getting up until after the time we should have left for him!! Drives me nuts but trying not to get stressed today! This is my first time so not sure what to expect today but fingers crossed all goes well Smile see you all on the other side xx

anroga · 29/01/2015 07:34

Good luck verkey today, it will be fine x

Going back to your earlier post i am now 12 days post transfer x still hasn't sunk in! Feeling slightly better but still got lots of fluid on my stomach and chest which is uncomfortable but hey got to just get on with it!

lildottie · 29/01/2015 09:52

good luck today phoenix and verkey.

hospital called to say et at 12 but I asked to speak to nurse as still quite uncomfortable/in a bit of pain. having blood tests at 11 to check OK for the transfer. eek

PhoenixFire7 · 29/01/2015 11:39

Hello everyone. I've just come back from theatre and I feel great! They have me magic anti sickness pills and they've worked perfectly. I'm enjoying the best tuna sandwich in the world. DP is grumpy because he's ill and worried about his sample!

Verkey I know how you feel. DP was faffing upstairs this morning for no reason and we left late! Grr.

So we got 16 eggs! After all the worrying I got one more than last time although no idea on how many were mature yet.

Any news verkey?

ToesAndFingersCrossed · 29/01/2015 12:04

Hey guys, glad it's all gone well! I guess I'll be the last to go in our little group - I triggered at 11pm last night, EC at 10am tomorrow. Nervous and excited at the same time. There were 5 follicles bigger than 17mm so I'm hoping we get a few - your news is very reassuring Phoenix congrats!!

Verkey81 · 29/01/2015 12:14

Wow toes that sounds like loads at a big size! We only got 7 eggs today, I asked why as she said there were more follicles but she said some follicles didn't have eggs in?! Is that normal? So 1 from the right side and 6 from the left. Just have to wait and see how many fertilise OK. She said less than 4 good ones and we'll transfer on day two which is Saturday, more than 4 and we go to day five for transfer. Not sure what the difference would be? Why wait? And why wouldn't you wait if less?

lildottie is that et today? If so, is that a 2 day et? Just wondering of you know what the criteria at your clinic is?

Thanks for all the well wishes and support everyone.

How are you feeling allchat? (hugs)

Verkey81 · 29/01/2015 12:18

phoenix that's loads Smile Smile fabulous! The men are a nightmare I think! Mine went for a half hour snooze in the sample room before he did his, just said "why not?" there was a bed, it looked comfy, he was tired and I was going to be ages! Lol Then disappeared off to the cafe and the nurses couldn't find him to bring him back when I came out, so they thought he might still be in the room 2 hours later! Luckily they realised he'd handed his sample in already in the end and found him in the cafe!

He's now making me a bacon sarnie Grin did they give you anti sickness pills because you normally feel unwell? I feel fine, just sleepy!

anroga · 29/01/2015 15:16

Glad it all went well today Verkey and you feel ok now but remember to still relax and don't do too much.

Funny enough my right was the one that produced most of the eggs rather than the left!

Fingers crossed for you they all fertilise and you get to day 5 x

lildottie · 29/01/2015 15:17

wow, what a day it's been.

We have had 2 day 2 embryos transferred this afternoon. Of our 7 1 didn't progress, 4 weren't looking good quality, 1 was grade 2 and one was grade 1. Because there was a clear winner there is no point growing them on as the best place for the to grow is inside you, hence quick transfer.

Because we had less than 5 good quality embryos we were allowed to choose to transfer 1 or 2. As we only had 2 and were told the others werent suitable for freezing we decided to transfer 2 and risk twins rather than risk it not working and losing the grade 2 in thawing.

I feel totally shell shocked that with my amh of 40 last january and dh's sample being in normal ranges at EC we only got 1 grade 1 from 11 eggs. it really goes to show its all just luck!

PhoenixFire7 · 29/01/2015 15:22

Wow Toes you do have some big follies! Exciting. Make sure you keep up updated tomorrow.

7 is good verkey. I've not heard of follicles not having eggs in? Odd! I have my fingers and toes crossed for good fertilisation for you! Are you putting 1 or 2 back?

I have the embryologist come in after my last post. They actually collected 18 but no idea on maturity and fertilisation until tomorrow.

I am usually very ill after a general. My blood pressure is on the low side of normal. so my last EC I felt very poorly and couldn't wake up. For my laparoscopy I was very sick. They wouldn't discharge me until I'd stopped being sick so I held it back until I got out the door and puked in a bush! Classy bird me Smile

So... Another change to how it was before. My clinic have stopped doing 5 day blasto stage. Last time we had 8 make it to blasto but this time they insist everyone have 3 day transfer after reviewing their success rate! Apparently their 3 day transfers are quite a bit more successful. I'm taking positivity from this but I'm a little nervous. What do you guys think?

PhoenixFire7 · 29/01/2015 15:26

Sorry lildottie we posted at the same time I think!
Well as they say, it only takes one. It really is all down to luck. My clinic didn't like to tell me the grades of embryos last time which was annoying. I got it out of them in the end though!

My transfer is Sunday so we'll be able to stress and obsess together xxx

lildottie · 29/01/2015 21:00

hi all. feeling more human now and more positive so have caught up properly.

phoenix 16 is amazing. fx for good news tomorrow.

verkey 7 is still a good number. we just need to keep reminding ourselves it only takes 1!

toes gl for tomorrow. I was awful coming round from ec. can't believe all the stuff dh said I said! apparently I told him to f off at one point - don't remember a thing!

has anyone else had pics of embryos? our clinic offered us pics of the ones we've had put back. its quite amazing to look at.

Smidge001 · 30/01/2015 10:25

verkey your oh story made me laugh!! Men are hilarious Grin

phoenix the magic anti sickness stuff is fabulous isn't it. I felt dreadful after one of my generals, (they eventually let me go home but classy chick like you, I was sick in the taxi) but was completely fine as anything the time the anaesthetist put some anti nausea stuff in my drip. Such a difference.

lildottie my oh also enjoys telling me I talk complete nonsense just as I'm going under (apparently I was quite rude to my fertility doctor Confused) as well as when I first come round. I thought memory loss was a thing of the past after giving up the booze Wink

PhoenixFire7 · 30/01/2015 11:17

Ok so out of 18 eggs, 14 mature and only 3 have fertilised! Healthy eggs, strong sperm. I don't get it.....

lildottie · 30/01/2015 13:29

eek phoenix that's a bummer. was that ivf not icsi? just try and stay positive and remember that you only need 1. I guess you'll be having et day3 then?

Verkey81 · 30/01/2015 16:22

Hi everyone :)

My EC was done under sedation so luckily I felt ok afterwards, although now I'm not sure if I can remember having some gas and air or if I dreamt that. I'm glad as I was so sick after my last general anaesthetic!

lildottie our clinic have a one embryo policy so we wouldn't have had the opportunity to transfer more even if we wanted, so you're quite lucky :) Do you know the date you can do the test? How are you feeling since ET?

Phoenix That's really strange about the 5 back to 3 day transfer as I thought everywhere was selling the 5 day as the best - it's constantly changing!! Hope the anti-sickness stuff worked well :) Sorry not so many of them made it through fertilisation but like lildottie keeps saying to reassure us, we only need one :) Was it ivf?

Phone call this morning, out of our 7 eggs, 5 were mature and were suitable for ICSI, miraculously all 5 survived the ICSI and so we're off to day 5 transfer... unless anything changes in which case they'll call us in... another wait clock is ticking, how do we make it through all these waiting times!

toes how was your EC?

lildottie · 30/01/2015 18:32

hi verkey glad to hear your numbers are staying up! I'm due to test 11th Feb. feeling OK. the tenderness of ec has eased off now but still the odd crampiness. just don't know how in going to get through this 2ww with my sanity intact!!

Verkey81 · 30/01/2015 20:54

It's so hard lildottie I don't know how anyone makes it through!

lildottie · 30/01/2015 22:59

we're nearly out of posts so I've started a new thread here

Verkey81 · 31/01/2015 00:03

Just 4 more to go lildottie?

Shellster52 · 01/02/2015 04:02

Been away for a bit and lots has happened. Amazing, there was Phoenix with 18 eggs and 3 fertilised, and Verkey starting with 7 eggs and 5 embryos. lildottie gets 7 also but one clear winner. It's all so random and individual.

Phoenix, that must be so frustrating. Was that IVF or ICSI? You deserve answers. I hope you get good news that at least these 3 are growing strong. Let us know when you find out.

I had my IVF Dr appt so my next IVF is all set up and now it's just a waiting game til mid March when I start. It's Feb now so that kinda makes it feel a bit closer.

lildottie · 01/02/2015 20:14

ocd, thread must be....
