Infertility

Considering going abroad for treatment -What do I need to know?

Am currently having NHS funded IUI. Already have DS1 from previous IUI but AMH has reduced to 4.6 pmol/l and am not responding to treatment as well as previously. Because of this reduced level I have only been granted 3 cycles of IUI instead of the normal 6 also. If this proves unsuccessful then we plan to go privately for treatment and have a budget of £5000 which in the fertility world isn't alot so are considering going abroad for treatment. I have no clue where to start with this and wonder if anyone with experience could help. Initial questions I have would be

  1. Can you have a telephone consultation to assess which treatment option is best for you?

2. Do NHS clinics happily give out test results to private clinics?
3. Are there waiting times for private cilnics?
4. How do I find and choose a clinic?

Hi,
Fertility friends web site is great for peer to peer advice. Greece, Spain and the Czech republic seem to be well rated, in particular serum in Athens. Be wary of the regulatory environment, for eg in Poland there is no regulation and as I understand it any spare embryos after your treatment belong to the clinic, not you if you decide not to pay the annual storage fee for them to be frozen. I read they might be sold on, I hear the same applies in Spain, but in Greece you are more in control and can ask for them to be destroyed if you don't want to freeze them. Its all a bit hard to get your head round and not something that had entered my mind when I first started looking in to this. At the moment I'm thinking of going to a private UK clinic due to better UK regulation, and costs of travel abroad are much higher for me as I live in a remote area. Best of luck.
