which Glasgow private clinic??

I'm looking for advice on which private clinic to choose in Glasgow for IVF treatment. I'm 41 years old and this will be my first attempt at fertility treatment. Has anyone been to the Nuffield, the GCRM (Glasgow Centre for Reproductive Medicine) or the GRMU (Glasgow Reproductive Medicine Unit at the Royal)? I've got all the literature, visited the websites and visited them in person and still can't decide! Perhaps hearing personal experiences might help. I'd appreciate any info, advice :-)

Thanks,
Dee

Awesome news ginger!I'm so excited for you! This is my last month before IVF so maybe it'll work for me too :) re: clinic list, I was told that even if I became pg I would only be taken off the list if I had a live birth (when I was seeing about NHS IVF). So I'd go ahead and say to your GP. Again, super news! I wish you and your bean lots of luck:)

Another thumbs up for GCRM - and another who waves passing with my DS in the back! I had IVF with ICSI and they were brilliant. I was fairly sure they're not actually that much more expensive and when you're forking out that sort of money surely you want the very best chance?

Hi, great thread. I've spent ages looking at the hfea statistics for scottish clinics and left none the wiser really, except that all scottish clinics deal with low numbers of patients compared with the likes of Lister in London. I'm in the far north so travelling anywhere is a bit of a drama. GCRM are v friendly on the phone, but I feel they did overstate their success rates compared to those reported on the hfea site; and the likes of Lister in London do better than any Scottish clinic I've looked at. The question is is the stresss of travel and additional cost worth it? I'm undecided as yet.. Thoughts anyone?

Sadly I'm back looking at ivf. Wasn't a sticky bean. V sad, want my sticky bean bfp more than anything now.

Good luck for wed deanna

happy I'm having a similar debate re glasgow or abroad, no idea what to do! Serum in Athens gets great reviews. I'm thinking maybe 1 cycle at gcrm, if unsuccessful would have to go abroad as much cheaper

DeannaC · 01/07/2014 18:11

So sorry Ginger! Big hugs, try to stay strong x

I think we will go to the Royal if needed, simply because of the price, I'd be able to have 2 rounds there.

Stay in touch, we may end up being cycle buddies x

I will, hoping wed brings you good news however. I'm at the royal on 22nd to get on nhs waiting list. Booked gcrm open day for aug, thinking its time for heavy duty science to help us out. Fed up with it all!

DeannaC · 02/07/2014 09:15

Morning Ginger,

BFN for me but I knew I was testing early so I still have some hope left!

I'll be put on the NHS waiting list in November if I don't go private. The problem is I was told by the consultant at the Royal (I was there in May) that the wait was 18 months,by the time I reach the top I will no longer qualify for treatment because of my age! So frustrating! Hence the reason for us looking for private options ??.

I'm looking forward to my acupuncture session this afternoon, hopefully it'll chill me out!

How are you feeling today?

Hi ladies I am looking at Glasgow too. I am finding the price lists very confusing and don't know what is included or what isn't. I see GCRM IVF is £3450 then you need to add on drugs and consultation fees. DO you need to add on scans for monitoring or is that included?? I like how the Royal list it as a package but maybe that isn't fully inclusive either?? Anyone with better insight than me?

DeannaC · 02/07/2014 15:45

Hi Sharon, welcome!

I agree, the price lists are confusing! And they're really just a guide because until they see you and decide what your exact treatment plan is they don't know the final price. When I contacted GCRM I was told that on top of the 3450 I should budget for an additional 1800 to cover the cost of tests, consultations and drugs.

The price for the Royal is everything except for the drugs. The Royal is nonprofit, that's why it's so much cheaper. The Royal is also opening it's brand new facility very soon!

Hope that helps.

It does help D thanks. When is the new facility opening I hadn't heard of that? What is your opinion on success rates? DH reckons there is always an explanation as to why somewhere looks better and is suspicious of the difference between GCRM and the Royal.

DeannaC · 03/07/2014 18:13

The new facility is due to open July/August this year :).

I think the GCRM stats are higher because of demographics more than anything. As it costs more you could generalise that patients attending there will be more affluent and therefore in better health prior to starting IVF. The Royal stats also include both the NHS patients and private patients. I don't think there's much in it to be honest.

When do you think you'll be starting treatment?

Hi everyone. deanna still keeping my fx you get a bfp. Hi sharon, I called gcrm & was given the following info:

Assessments tests £250
Consultation £175
Ivf 3450, icsi £4100
Drugs, a range but up to £1000

That's interesting about the new facility...

Gingerbreadlady1 · 03/07/2014 19:07

Should have clarified, that's everything, anything not listed is included.

sharond101 · 03/07/2014 21:46

Thanks ladies. I have just completed a round of IUI which had a poor response. Going to try again with higher doses and if response is not better will take it from there and start ASAP. I emailed both GCRM and GRI yesterday and got a really quick response from GCRM and nothing from GRI so far which doesn't fill me with confidence however the costs are significantly different and at GRI could almost get 2 cycles for the cost of one at GCRM if using FET second time round. My AMH is low, 4.6, and I might decide to have a consultation at each clinic and find out what they planned to do for me then decide between them?

sharond101 · 03/07/2014 21:59

Ginger in my email from GCRM they also listed compulsory bloods at £350, everything else was the same.

Gingerbreadlady1 · 04/07/2014 19:46

Good luck with the iui sharon.

Am I correct in thinking gri is 2650 plus meds (up to £1k)?

deanna how are you getting on? Poas?

sharond101 · 04/07/2014 21:26

Yes Ginger, £2655 + meds.
