Anyone had ovarian drilling?

Hi all just found out my second round of clomid didn't work and was told I would probably be offered ovarian drilling next before ivf. Anyone had this? If so how did it go and did it work? Xxx

I had this procedure done (its proper name is laparoscopic ovarian diathermy) and it is the reason why I became a parent to a now teenager!. Endometriosis was also found during this procedure (that was why I had very painful periods) and also lasered off. The cystic follicles on the ovaries are basically punctured.

Its not a cure for PCOS because the cystic follicles associated with this condition do return but it can certainly kickstart ovulation in some PCOS patients.

Thanks for your reply. Apart from not ovulating I don't seem to have any other side effects from my PCOS. I'm not over weight, I'm not overly hairy and my hormone levels are normal. I really thought clomid would have worked but it's not meant to be. I really didn't want to go down a more invasive route but it seems that's what I need to do before trying IVF. Did you fall pregnant soon after having the procedure? Xxx

I became pg a month later!. I never thought it would happen as soon as that.

Clomid does not unfortunately always work out for all PCOSers; clomid resistance can happen in some women. Clomid can increase LH levels markedly; if these are high to begin with then ovulation is often affected. This is why women with PCOS should be monitored when offered clomid treatment.

I wish you the best of luck re this surgery. I basically went as white as a sheet when it was offered to me, I did feel very apprehensive about the whole idea of surgery at the time.

I haven't had it but I have a friend who did. She now has two gorgeous children.

Thank you so much for your comments. I was quite shocked and upset when I was told I would probably need the surgery. It just seems really invasive. Hearing your stories however makes me think it's definitely worth a shot xxx
