Ive decided to talk to you guys as feel a bit like im on my own. Dont want to speak to friends and family as dont want people asking questions constantly.

5 years ago I found I had PCOS. My husband and I knew I would have to crack on sooner than I may have wanted too and luckily we did. We have been TTC for 8 months which may not be long but feels like ages. Dr has tested my 21 day blood test which came back as I didnt ovulate this last month. Gutted. All chlamydia etc bloods came back fine. Shes recommended chlomid as our next option. I was sent to homerton hospital for a scan today which was inter al. The lovely lady said I had severe cysts on both ovaries. We are waiting on my husbands sperm test in 3 weeks until that happens our dr wont refer us...

Can anyone give me any advice on what may be next for us? Or anyone been referred to homerton as I have heard mixed views... trying to stay positive but its so hard as all I have ever wanted is a family

wishing everyone lots of luck on the journey of craziness x

Hiya lovly , I too have Pcos , and don't ovulate every munth, the doc won't do any think until your husbands sperm results are back becuae the results will determine the next steps , if you partner has a low sperm count for example clomid probably wouldn't be the best option as it is used to induce ovulation if there is no sperm ther wouldn't be a point , but hopefully all will be fine and clomid would probs be the first step , I had 6 munth of clomid with no luck but ther are many succes stories from clomid falling on the first munth , after the clomid I had more tests and then was offerd Ivf as a next step but every clinic varies depending on the couple. It is a long stress full road , good luck hunny hope that helps a little I know it's daunting xz

Hiya, it is a maze when dealing with investigations/ referral due to criteria laid out by the local Trust. Time schedule is valuable for you. My suggestion is find out the age group suitable for NHS IVF. It varies from county to county: Post code lottery.

Splitbanana it really Is a maze. Im lucky in some ways as Homerton give you 3 ivf cycles if your in yhe postcode which we are but the reviews of homerton and success levels are not great...

With PCOS it is likely that you are not ovulating regularly if at all currently.

If clomid is offered to you (it is usually the first line of treatment for PCOS patients) you should be monitored whilst on it with both blood tests and ultrasounds. This should be done because clomid can affect hormone levels markedly and some PCOS can react poorly to clomid stimulation. It should only be given for a max time of 6 months.
Do not accept them not monitoring you!.

It may be that ultimately IVF is not needed; this should only be tried with PCOS patients (and if this is the only issue) after all other treatment options have been exhausted. Re the cysts, they are not cysts in the usual sense of the word. They are cystic follicles on the ovaries; some of these are dormant and others release hormones.

I would further educate yourself re PCOS www.verity-pcos.org.uk is a good website.

Can you be referred instead to another NHS unit if this one turns out to be poorly managed?.
