My husband and I have been trying for our first baby on and off for the last three years. Our situation is a little complicated in that he works abroad on a rotational basis, six weeks at home and then eight weeks away, throughout the year. We always assumed it would take longer than usual for us to conceive because if this and over the past couple if years have been very stressed due to family issues, so we weren't alarmed initially. However, now we are really very keen to get on and start our family as my husband is now 42. We decided to get checked out and sadly my husband has inactive sperm and it has been recommended that we get some help. I just feel so sad and I'm so worried.....it never occurred to me that something could be wrong and now he has gone back to work so I am dealing with it all by myself. Has anyone had any experience of this? Any ideas what treatment the doctors will recommend? Not sure how it will all work with him being out of the country so much Sad

It would depend on how bad the issue is.
We had really low count and got pg on first icsi. (But we were asked if we wanted donor sperm as a back up, and took months getting enough frozen sperm for backup for treatment day).
Not sure what inactive sperm means, but for a lot of sperm issues healthy living, no hot baths, cycling, vitamins can help some people.

Hi animal, it was discovered that my partner has azoospermia, in other words no live swimmers when he ( well you know! ) after several sperm tests at the Ivf lab he was given a operation called a PESA, it is were the doctor inserts a long thin needle in to the testicle and extracts swimmers from the sperm tissue . Luckily he procedure was successful for us and we have sperm in the freezer in the lab awaiting our first Ivf/icsi cycle, this may be an option to you depending on the reason for your dh low count. Good Luck!
