Clomid period very light - shall I start 2nd cycle?

Hi all,

Am taking clomid days 2-6. Yesterday I have a bleed at exactly CD28 & 25DPO. Wow I thought! Regular cycle! However the period is really light, meaning (sorry for tmi) sometimes it's dark red & reflective of my normal periods, then I'll go hours & hours with no bleeding at all, then it can be just when I wipe.

Shall I take my clomid today? Anyone else experience weird periods on clomid & what did you do?

I haven't had any problems like that but I think your supposed to take it on your 2nd full day. Hopr AF sorts itself out for you

I have used Clomid previously but have now moved onto IVF after discovering a sperm issue with my husband.

I already have light periods but Clomid certainly made them much lighter again. This is to be expected when you consider how Clomid works. Clomid binds to estrogen receptors. Your brain then thinks that your follicles are not growing because it cannot detect the estrogen that the follicles are producing. So the brain sends out more FSH than it normally would and hence your ovaries are stimulated more than they normally would be. The down side is because Clomid binds to estrogen receptors, it prevents estrogen from being able to do what it would normally do which is to prepare and thicken your uterine lining.

I don't want to say what you should or shouldn't do but just wanted to give you this info in case you were not aware of these facts so you can make a decision.

I took Clomid for three cycles and by the end of the third cycle, my period was nearly non existant.

My periods are light but only once I start the clomid. How are you finding IVF?

Shellster52 · 26/11/2013 23:22

The actual process of IVF is okay. I can handle all the self injecting, egg retrieval operation and all the physical stuff. It's the emotional toll and fear of failure that I am finding the hardest.

I normally only have two to three follicles on each ovary. I tried something new and was so excited when I went my my day 3 scan this cycle and found I had 6-7 follicles on my right ovary and 8 on my left! I had high hopes for IVF this cycle. I went for a follow up scan today, and while my right ovary has responded okay, only two of the 8 follicles on my left ovary responded. I am very upset today. I can't handle another failed IVF.

Are you still trying the Clomid Woodwaj?

Did you decide to go ahead with another Clomid cycle despite your light cycle NotSohappy?

I am going for a repeat scan on Friday. I am desperately hoping I will get some good news but I am not feeling very positive about it.

Im glad its not so bad Shellster, I cant imagine now it makes you feel!!

Im in my 3rd cycle of clomid, got around 1 week left to test but ill prob just wait for AF, My next appointment at the fertility clinic is the 18th December if this doesn't work. Im not sure if they will increase my dose or try something else though

Shellster52 · 28/11/2013 09:11

You are more patient than most people woodwaj, being able to wait for AF. I tell myself after I have my embryo transferred back inside me this cycle (if I make it that far in the IVF process!) I would like to just forget about it and not be obsessed with testing - not sure how I will go with that in practice though!

How long have you been TTC? Have you been given any diagnosis as to why it is not happening?

woodwaj · 28/11/2013 10:37

I do obsess all the time but im 15 months into ttc and im bored of seeing BFN

I have pcos I don't ovulate as I only have around 1 natural period per year :(

Shellster52 · 30/11/2013 03:23

Okay, so I take it the Clomid is working for you then in that it is getting you to ovulate and giving you a period. But unfortunately still BFN's. Are they monitoring you with scans to ensure you ovulate?

Sounds like at least you have a back up plan going for review if this cycle fails - but hopefully you don't need it and this cycle has worked!

woodwaj · 30/11/2013 09:26

I had a scan during my first cycle but that was to confirm the pcos and not to check on the clomid.

I can test next week so fingers crossed

Shellster52 · 06/12/2013 23:09

I just had my embryo transfer yesterday and was thinking of you Woodwaj and where you are up to in your cycle. Hope you are managing to stay sane - I am at the start of a 2ww and I have no idea how I am going to last!
