Clomid side effects or.....

Hi all,

I know I'm probably making something out of nothing here. Is it usual to get really aching boobs on Clomid? on 3rd cycle of 50g, day 24 (shortish cycle, usually 26 days or so). No side effects whatsoever in the first two cycles but for the past couple of days my boobs have been really achy and you can see veins on them. We are 2 1/2 years into ttc, will get ivf next January if it doesn't happen before then. Did a test earlier, but got a bfn... This is the first time in ages I've felt even a tiny bit hopeful, so used to it not working. What do you think? (Also felt tearful last night, so maybe af approaching, it's just nice to feel a little bit hopeful for once!)

Breast discomfort is a side effect of clomid.

Importantly though have you been monitored to date whilst on this drug treatment?. No monitoring is unacceptable as you then do not know whether its working or not. Clomid's main job is to make the ovaries work harder.

Do you actually have a diagnosis of the underlying problem?. At 2 1/2 years of ttc there could be a problem with either one or equally both of you.

Do you feel that both of you as a couple have been adequately investigated and have had the test results thoroughly explained to you?.
Any test result over 6 months old should be discounted, you should in any case have up to date test results.

Why has IVF been suggested to you for next January?.

Thank you for replying Attila, I thought it might be.

I have had blood tests on two of the three months, but no scans, as a lot of people seem to have. My progesterone went up from 10 before, to 29 (still waiting for the 3rd result). Tbh, at our 2nd appointment (where the Clomid was prescribed), I've found the consultant to be quite vague. Adenomyosis was hinted at after my ulstrasound, but the HSG came back fine, although they said I didn't ovulate the first time I was tested, but the day 2 test was just about ok/borderline (FSH of 10 pre-Clomid). DH's results were good, so there is no problem with him, although he has only been tested once.

I think maybe that when we have our next appointment in a couple of weeks that I will take a list of questions with me. Your questions have made me realise that I don't feel that it has been explained to me properly. I feel a bit as though we're on a conveyor belt and although I get the results, I don't feel as though anyone has looked at them all together to try and come up with a proper explanation. They said we would be eligible for IVF after 3 years with no apparent cause, which is early next year.
